J.L. Moore is a commercial general contracting and design-build firm located in Strongsville, Ohio. Founded in 1973, we provide construction services to local, regional, and national clients. As we continue to experience successful growth, we are seeking a highly skilled Director of Pre-Construction with the experience and passion to lead our estimating team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating commercial projects and a proven ability to manage and mentor a team. As Director of Pre-Construction, you will be a key member of our team, will have the autonomy to further develop the estimating department, along with building and developing your own team. This position is a player-coach role, meaning that the Director of Pre-Construction will still perform the role of Estimator as well as overseeing the department. The Director of Pre-Construction will work directly with management to win commercial construction opportunities that support company goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities: • Lead and mentor the estimating team, providing guidance and support to ensure timely and accurate proposals are submitted. • Oversee and develop cost estimates for a wide range of commercial projects. • Lead the bidding process by preparing, soliciting, and reviewing bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring competitive and fair pricing. • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies through value engineering, providing innovative solutions to enhance project value. • Develop accurate cost estimates and budgets in collaboration with estimators and project managers. • Analyze project specifications and drawings to ensure compliance and feasibility. • Oversee the preparation and submission of bid proposals, ensuring they are competitive and align with project requirements. • Work closely with project teams, to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to construction phases. • Work closely with the sales team to conduct presentations and meetings to win new opportunities. • Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and competitive dynamics, utilizing this knowledge to refine estimating strategies.
Key Requirements: • Minimum of 6 years of experience estimating commercial construction projects ranging from $500 thousand to $20 million. • Experience developing conceptual estimates is required. • Proven leadership experience in managing and developing estimating teams. • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost estimating techniques. • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with a keen attention to detail. • A highly motivated, self-starting individual that is goal oriented. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders. • Proficient in the use of technology and software necessary to perform the role. • Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required. • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
