Our client is looking to fill the role of Product Development manager for a top apparel company based in NYC. Working on denim, woven's and knits for a few brands with a focus on Costco.
Responsibilities:
Overseeing the entire process of bringing a fashion product from concept to market meetings with retailers. This role is essential in transforming design ideas into final products.
Trend Forecasting: Keeping up with the latest fashion trends, materials, colors, and consumer preferences to ensure the product aligns with current market demands.
Competitor Analysis: Monitoring competitors' products and strategies to identify opportunities or gaps in the market.
Collaboration with Designers: Working closely with fashion designers to interpret design ideas and translate them into viable products.
Prototype Development: Overseeing the creation of proto samples to refine designs and assess feasibility.
Working with factories: Communicating with factories to achieve proto samples deadlines by advising due dates, follow up on sample submissions.
Manage timelines for sampling: Tracking sample development ensuring critical milestones are met.
Fabric and Material Selection: Sourcing and selecting appropriate fabrics, trims, and other materials that meet design specifications and budgetary constraints.
Technical Specifications and Product Details: Strong understanding of garment construction.
Fit and Quality Control: Collaborating with designers on fittings and ensuring the product meets quality standards and design intentions.
Working with Sales: Collaborating with sales team to ensure the product aligns with the overall brand strategy and retail plans.
Sustainable Practices: Incorporating sustainable practices and materials into the product development process to meet consumer demand for eco-friendly fashion.
Innovation: Staying ahead of industry trends by exploring new technologies, materials, and production methods.
Sales insights: Review performance at retail and implement improvements.
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of related experience in Ladies apparel design
Costco experience is a strong asset
Excellent understanding of the contemporary and lifestyle markets on a global scale
Ability to take direction and be coachable and adaptable
Ability to forecast and understand market trends, and how, if at all, they are to be addressed
Ability to inspire and confidently campaign for ideas and proposals
Thorough understanding apparel constructions, materials, costing and processes
Highly motivated, Creative and Enthusiastic
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
Ability to collaborate strategically with cross-functional partners and drive towards shared success and outcomes
Bilingual (French/English)
Strong proficiency of MS Office Suite, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
Knowledge of PLM is an asset
Experience in creating technical drawings, CAD & illustrations
