Position Description: Assistant Director of Finance (this is more of a Full Charge Bookkeeper role focused more on payroll and HR with some light accounting mixed in)

Employment Classification: Full-time, Exempt, Regular 40-hour work week

  • Contract-to-hire role
  • Onsite role in Atlanta, GA

(NOTE: this is more of a "Full Charge Bookkeeper" role in terms of responsibilities, with it focused more on payroll and HR, and less on accounting)

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIITIES:
  • Accounting support for HR/payroll including reporting new hires to GDOL, ERP updates, physical file maintenance, etc. Process weekly and semi-monthly payroll, related electronic funds transfers, and electronic payroll tax payments (federal and state). Prepare federal and state monthly, quarterly and annual payroll filings, including 1099's.
  • Enter and file all pledges. Enter check contributions into Touchpoint and execute digital and physical bank deposits. Correct or change contributions based on instructions from donors and the Director of Stewardship.
  • Check accuracy of accounts payable entries, process and mail A/P checks, obtain approval signatures and file A/P vouchers.
  • Prepare reports related to pledge and payroll month end close. Process payroll benefits at month end.
  • Interacts with external auditor; provides access to accounting records, as required.
  • Obtain copier and postage meter readings at end of month and enter the data into spreadsheets for cost center allocation.
  • Prepare reports, schedules, and new forms as needed by the Director of Operations and share information on new tax and legal requirements concerning payroll issues.
  • Distribute incoming mail ensuring all checks/bills are received by Finance for timely processing.
  • Create other excel spreadsheet applications requested by clergy or other staff members.
  • Purge files and continue to organize finance closet to be in full compliance with the approved retention policy.
  • Resolve issues with vendors, donors, banks and other external parties as problems and questions arise.
  • Ensures strict confidentiality of financial records.
  • Support liturgy/worship with funeral billing and collection efforts.
  • Support treasury with weekly reports during their fundraising season.
  • Provide monthly financials to all operating departments. Field guild and special fund requests as needed.
  • Manage count team efforts/schedule.
  • Work with DOF to improve efficiency related to A/P process including ACH processing and digital approvals.
  • Provide budget support and financial analysis to department chairs.
  • Work with Director of Finance to document daily cash and month end close procedures. Serve as administrator for credit cards; resolve issues, manage users and provide reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Accounting and business studies at an accredited college or technical school; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer skills: Cloud Software, Excel, pivot tables, formulas, CRM and ERP system knowledge are essential to fulfilling the responsibilities of this job. Intermediate experience with Shelby Next, Touchpoint and One Cause are preferred.

Work Environment:
  • Must be available to work from 8:30 AM-5:30 PM.
