The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking a highly experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Director of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). This position is in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R) and acts as the DOT's Statistical Official, responsible for directing and coordinating statistical policy across the Department. You will lead the development and enforcement of data quality and confidentiality standards to safeguard sensitive information and ensure the integrity of statistical methods and conclusions.

As the senior advisor to the Secretary of Transportation, you will play a pivotal role in guiding data-driven decision-making by enhancing the collection, analysis, and reporting of transportation statistics. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of U.S. transportation policy through innovative data leadership.

About the Role:

As the BTS Director, you will be responsible for driving the development and implementation of statistical policies that ensure the highest quality and integrity of data within the DOT. Your work will enable policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to make informed decisions that improve the performance and safety of the national transportation system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the collection, analysis, and publication of comprehensive transportation statistics on the performance and impacts of the national transportation network.
  • Serve as the DOT's Statistical Official, collaborating with other federal agencies to advocate for data-driven decisions and policies.
  • Oversee the development of data quality and confidentiality standards, safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring the validity of statistical analysis across DOT programs.
  • Act as a senior advisor to the Secretary of Transportation, guiding BTS programs to enhance data collection and reporting, and supporting DOT's mission to provide rigorous, evidence-based analysis.

  • TQ2: Proven executive-level experience collaborating with diverse partners and stakeholders to assess statistical data and evidence, using this analysis to inform policy, program, and regulatory decisions that impact the transportation community.
