Job: Senior Architect - Luxury Residential Design

Location: New York, NY

Our client, a prestigious interior design studio specializing in high-end residential projects, seeking a Senior Architect to join the team in New York. This role will have a significant impact on shaping luxury residential projects, nurturing client relationships, and mentoring junior designers. The ideal candidate will bring a sophisticated design perspective, a proactive approach, and strong leadership skills to this growing team.

Position Overview

As a Senior Architect, you will run multiple projects of any scale, providing creative direction, client management, and team mentoring. You will also be accountable for project profitability, financial oversight, and business development.

Key Responsibilities

Client Services
  • Lead client meetings with a professional and confident demeanor
  • Maintain proactive and direct client communications
  • Review and document meeting minutes following each client meeting

Creative Leadership
  • Represent the company at industry events and design fairs/tradeshows, sharing insights with the team
  • Source new vendors and products, and provide thought-leadership on design trends

Financial Leadership
  • Ensure accurate timesheets and expense management, both personal and project-related

Project Deliverables
  • Set design direction for projects alongside the Studio Director
  • Oversee the production of project drawings (floor plans, elevations, RCPs, etc.) and documentation (material schedules, finish schedules, etc.) to the highest standards
  • Source, select, and specify materials, finishes, fixtures, and hardware
  • Coordinate effectively with vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Review consultant and shop drawings to ensure alignment with design intent

People Leadership
  • Mentor junior designers, focusing on their development as holistic design thinkers
  • Ensure junior staff's work adheres to the studio's standards and aesthetic values

Qualifications & Skills
  • A high taste level and deep knowledge of the high-end market
  • Strong leadership abilities, capable of guiding teams and making decisions under tight timelines
  • Highly presentable, discreet, and confident with an upbeat demeanor
  • Detail-oriented, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience leading projects, motivating staff, and managing client relationships
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Microsoft Office
  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in interior design and/or architectural firms
