If you are a Payroll professional looking for an exciting new role, Kinder Morgan has a fantastic opportunity for you! As a Payroll Processor reporting to the Supervisor of Payroll, you will be responsible for providing analytical and customer service support for various payroll initiatives. The Payroll Processor oversees and administers various payroll activities for the company. The person filling this role must be knowledgeable in payroll practices and regulations. You will be eligible for a hybrid schedule with Monday through Wednesday in Kinder Morgan's downtown Houston office and Thursday and Friday being remote-work days. Key Responsibilities:


  • Process multi state bi-weekly payroll in an accurate and timely manner

  • Process pay accurately for new hires, transfers, terminations and pay rate changes within a streamlined structure

  • Enter and verify direct deposit data and Federal, State and/or Local tax withholding elections

  • Calculate and process manual check payments for missing time, retro pay and/or additional earnings

  • Detailed review of timesheets and payroll audits

  • Research and respond to payroll questions and concerns from employees as required

  • Assist in development and maintaining internal process documentation as required

  • Perform other payroll task as deemed necessary and assist in special projects as required

  • Provide excellent customer service to our employees, human resource representatives and managers by responding to employee paycheck inquiries vial email and returning employee phone calls in a timely manner.

  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Act as a back up to other team members as needed


Position Requirements

Required:


  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience processing payroll for a multi-state employer with multiple locations (CN1)

  • High School Education Required. Associate level degree preferred

  • Experience with in-house payroll processing using an integrated HR/Payroll software package

  • Experience with a web based time and attendance reporting system

  • Knowledge of state and federal wage and tax laws and overtime requirements

  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to identify and resolve complex issues

  • Attention to detail and strong problem solving skills, including logical thought processes, with ability to resolve complex issues

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service

  • Ability to oversee projects and processes with many elements from beginning to end

  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively in a clear concise manner with internal and external customers, managers and leadership, vendors, consultants, legal

  • Possess authentic listening skills

  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint,

  • Self-motivated with the ability to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, meet multiple deadlines and work with limited direct supervision

  • Ability to organize, schedule and prioritize departmental and individual work to meet various schedules and objectives, reprioritize on short notice

  • Ability to work with all levels of internal and external personnel, and maintain strict confidentiality

  • Ability to identify, and regularly meet, expectations in an employee/employer relationship

  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules

  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job

  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment


Preferred:

  • Experience with Lawson Payroll Module

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for the purpose of developing and analyzing data on spreadsheets and data retrieval (CN2)

(CN1) Would we ever accept someone with less than 3 years experience?
