Description

 

Pfizer Oncology Research & Development (ORD) is seeking a Scientist (non-PhD) to join our Discovery Technologies group. The candidate will join our interdisciplinary and highly collaborative team to support and advance our preclinical oncology drug pipeline. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cellular and molecular biology, in vitro pharmacology, and biochemical/cell assay development. They will design, plan, and execute studies to explore novel drug targets. They will implement new technologies to support drug discovery, interpret experimental results, and present their research. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of independent research experience with an ability to learn quickly and think critically. This position will provide the motivated candidate with ample opportunity for scientific growth through exposure to all aspects of the drug discovery process. Special consideration will be given for candidates that have expertise in cancer biology.

 

Role responsibilities:

 

  • Design, plan, and execute studies to explore the mechanism of action of novel drug targets and understand related biology and biomarker responses.
  • Develop and validate relevant assay systems to screen and characterize small molecules in medium and high-throughput formats.
  • Execute routine screening of small molecule drug candidates.
  • Results and methodologies will be clearly communicated to teams and appropriately documented in laboratory notebooks.
  • Keep current with appropriate biology and technical literature and contribute new ideas to advance project work.
  • Contribute to a culture that prioritizes scientific discovery, pursues excellence, and encourages growth.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • BS or BS/MS in the biological sciences with 4-6 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Extensive cell culture experience required.
  • Experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques such as western blotting, qPCR, CRISPR-Cas9 or si/shRNA, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, cloning/plasmid engineering, etc.
  • Ability to design, optimize, develop and routinely execute robust immune-based screening assays such as ELISA, MSD, HTRF, alphaLISA etc. and functional cell screening assays including Cyquant, CTG, and IncuCyte in medium and high-throughput 2D and 3D formats.
  • Ability to program, validate and operate liquid-handling automation including Biomek liquid handler and multi-drop Combi for 96-well and 384-well plate-based assays and use of plate readers such as PHERAStar and Celigo for data generation.
  • Ability to work independently and design experiments that test complex hypotheses.
  • Attention to detail, and ability to multi-task/ prioritize and manage timing of daily activities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Fluency in basic data analysis software such as GraphPad, Excel, Activity Base, etc.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience with complex 3D model systems such as matrix-attached models, 3D bioprinting, spheroids and/or organoids in mono- and immune cell co-culture systems.
  • Microfluidics and/or tumor-on-a-chip experience.
  • Experience with immunofluorescent microscopy and high-content imaging and analysis systems such as Perkin Elmer Operetta CLS, Signals Image Artist, Cell Profiler, FIJI, etc.
  • Experience in generation and/or interpretation of multi-omic datasets, such as RNAseq, ChIPseq, proteomics, or functional genomic screens.
  • Preference for candidates with expertise in oncogenic signaling, cell cycle regulation, and/or epigenetic/transcriptional regulation.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $74,900.00 to $124,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
