Program Specialist 3Salary: $56,880 - $76,608**Classification: Program Specialist 3Reports To: Associate Dean of Retention
Under general supervision of the department administrator, the Career Services Specialist will provide career and employment-planning services to enrolled and former students, support faculty upon request for career development information, and promote employers' job listing and internship services for students and graduates, and provide career center programming and support.



Goal: The goal of this position is to engage and actively connect with students from admission to employment to provide services to increase students' employability upon completion of their Professional-Technical degree or certificate.Essential Functions


  • Provide career and employment-planning services that assist students with job search, resume preparation, interviewing skills and techniques, letter writing, job application forms, personal appearance and preparation, skills-based employment portfolios, labor market information.

  • Support Associate Dean in achieving Career Center goals and initiatives aimed to provide students with wholistic career development and career readiness from entry to graduation; support development of Guided Pathways best practices aimed to have all student engage in career assessment and career readiness upon graduation.

  • Incorporate Guided Pathways program outcomes into students' employment plan and skill development; administer career interest inventories and/or assessments; refer students to programs/faculty that match career interests and skill level.

  • Partner with Career Center Program Coordinator to conduct new student employment hiring orientations and assist with on- and off-campus referrals to employment and internships; assist students with Career Center registration process and paperwork.

  • Provide support to faculty for their classes and students by conducing information sessions about career services, job search and career development presentations; conduct mock interview sessions; and provide critiques of student resumes.

  • Coordinate services with other areas such as Advising and Counseling, Workforce Development & Transitional Studies, Welcome Center, and other Instructional or Student Services programs.

  • Assist employers with online job board and in promoting their job and internship opportunities by scheduling, publicizing, coordinating interview process; recruit additional employers for career events; publicize employers' jobs to classes.

  • Assist with planning and organizing activities, career fairs and workshops.

  • Under the direction of the Associate Dean, support retention strategies and career development programming that align with Guided Pathways and other instructional or campus initiatives.

  • Other Duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Two years experience providing direct career and employment-planning service.
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social/human services or related field.

  • Knowledge of Professional-Technical programs.

  • Knowledge of Student Employment, Federal Work Study, State Work Study; related guidelines and timelines.

  • Knowledge of Financial Aid application process, guidelines, and timelines.

  • Knowledge of community college students and challenges faced by non-traditional students.

  • Experience with Career Assessment and Career Readiness Strategies.

  • Successful applicant will be able to:

    • Develop and maintain working relations within the campus and business community.

    • Collaborate with faulty, administrators, and staff to provide effective career and employment-planning services.

    .Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $56,880 - $76,608 All classified positions will start their salary at Step A, when you have completed six months of probation, you will receive a 5 percent pay increase. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Associate (WPEA) Union.
