Job Description:





Baker Tilly , one of the fastest growing CPA advisory firms in the nation, has an incredible career opportunity for a Sr Specialist to join our growing State & Local Tax (SALT) practice!


Our SALT practice is made up of 100+ professionals across the U.S., providing a full spectrum of services including Income & Franchise tax, Sales & Use tax, Real & Personal Property tax, Unclaimed Property and Voluntary Disclosure & Remediation by industry needs. As a Sr. Specialist, State & Local Tax, your primary responsibility will be handling fundamental accounting tasks and deliverables, collaborating within a dynamic team to ensure timely completion of client projects while maintaining a high standard of quality and accuracy client tax compliance. In addition:


  • Assist in calculating and validating sales tax for various transactions in accordance with applicable tax rates and regulations.


  • Manage and maintain accurate records of sales tax transactions, exemption certificates, and related documents.


  • Review and process sales tax exemption certificates for eligible customers.


  • Support the preparation and filing of sales tax returns with relevant tax authorities.


  • Collaborate with internal teams to address sales tax-related inquiries and provide support on tax matters.


  • Stay updated on changes in sales tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.


  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of tax processing procedures.


  • Support team where needed in accomplishing client deliverables.


  • Proactively communicate status of work, ask timely questions, and seek clarity from lead on client engagement when needed in order to keep work progressing.


  • Working with tax compliance software to prepare returns based on provided workpapers.


  • Meet client service expectations through adhering to quality and timely client deliverables, and meeting time budget expectations.


  • Promptly communicate roadblocks and inefficiencies as they arise


  • Maintain and expand knowledge base of accounting principles and practices.


  • Familiarize and build your knowledge of local, state, and federal practices and laws.


  • Apply learning from one client engagement to the next and share learning with fellow team members where relevant.


  • Stay current with updates and improvements on applicable technology platforms and obtain certifications as directed by your manager.


  • Other duties and special projects as assigned




Qualifications:


  • Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred; Experience in lieu of a degree may be accepted.



  • 0-2 years of sales tax reporting, billing support, preferably in a professional services environment, experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or related field preferred.


  • Strong desire to provide exceptional client service, has a professional demeanor and the ability to handle matters confidentially.


  • Keen sense of accuracy and attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow directions and procedures.


  • Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to work effectively and with a sense of urgency in a deadline driven environment serving multiple clients.


  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of time management, communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solving.


  • Strong adaptability and multi-tasking skills.


  • Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly.


  • Ability to learn from experiences and integrate new knowledge and skills into daily work and share with colleagues as appropriate.


  • A desire to work independently with clients.


  • Ability to work limited overtime as needed.


  • Knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping and payroll principles related to classifying, recording, and summarizing data and making computations to compile and keep financial records.


  • Experience in Avalara, Vertex, OneSource, NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Bill.com and/or Expensify, a plus.


  • Experience and knowledge working within MS Office Suite.
