Our client is seeking an experienced Plant Manager for their Mississippi wood pellet manufacturing facility. We are seeking someone who has experience managing a manufacturing facility, preferably in the wood and paper products industry or wood pellet industry. The ideal candidate is passionate about building a culture of safety, improving operations and output and is a boots-on-the-ground type leader, who understands the mechanical, administrative and leadership requirements of this type of business.

The Wood Pellet facility current produces approximately 100,000 mt of pellets annually and has approximately 25 employees.

Job Description:
  • Safeguard the health and safety of all employees and avoid legal jeopardy through strict compliance with the site safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
  • Demonstrate safety in all activities; lead by example and expect others to follow safety practices.
  • Supervise and manage all plant functions, including Production, Maintenance, Incoming Raw Material, Outgoing Products by truck to the port, Safety, Quality Assurance and Human Resources.
  • Supervise and manage effective corrective, predictive, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure plant is fully staffed, employees properly trained, and equipment is always fully functional.
  • Ensure the plant is staffed to operate efficiently and continuously look for opportunities for improvement.
  • Leverage plant resources to meet or exceed all KPI's, most importantly safety, quality, productivity, waste, and budget.
  • Maintain neat, clean, well-organized, and well-maintained operations, warehouse, and administrative areas.
  • Ensure purchase orders are approved and processed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Manager's software is being used to capture work orders, track parts inventory, and assist with preventive maintenance type functions.
  • Responsible for making sure plant is meeting stormwater & air permitting checks and requirements.
  • Manage time between office type duties and hands on plant operations including maintenance follow-up and assistance with plant employees.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience required:
  • Five to Ten years related experience in a manufacturing environment. Wood pellet or wood products manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results.
  • Ability to think and plan ahead.
  • Computer literate - must be familiar with current software such as Microsoft Office suite and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, listening skills, problem solving skills and conflict resolution skills.
  • Working knowledge of budgets, inventory management and scheduling.
  • Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgment, troubleshooting, problem solving, analysis, and discretion; ability to handle work-related stress; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously; and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to kneel, squat or bend.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in hot and/or cold weather conditions.
  • Have the ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, reaching/working overhead.
  • Must be able lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
