Acara Solutions has been providing our staffing services to advanced manufacturing firms national for 65+ years. Our Santa Barbara, CA manufacturer client is looking for an Electro-Optical Systems Engineer or EO Test Engineer to join their organization onsite. The salary range is $130K - $150K. They also have a more experienced similar position with a Senior title with a salary range topping out around $180K.
They key requirement here is experience with large lenses (e.g., telescope) along with heavy experience running an optical testing lab.
The Electro-Optical Systems Engineer's primary responsibility will be to design, integrate and characterize electro-optical test systems in support of company market segments (Infrared Scene Projectors, Standard Commercial Products, and Integrated Electro-Optical Test Systems).
Responsibilities:
Develops specifications and guides design of complex electro-optical test systems.
Performs system performance modeling and requirements flow down analysis to support development.
Develops system compliance methodology, including test procedures.
Collects and analyzes test data makes adjustments to optimize system performance.
Interacts directly with customers during factory acceptance testing and travels to customer facilities to lead on-site system installation, integration and training.
Performs routine troubleshooting, test and calibration in support of on-going programs, as well as special-purpose programs.
Works with electrical and mechanical engineering staff to document changes made to hardware and deviations from standard procedures as necessary.
Performs analysis to support sales department in efforts to identify possible solutions to potential customers' applications.
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics or similar technical degree
Min 5 years of systems engineering experience, including within electro-optics and/or infrared systems.
- Large lens experience is required (e.g., telescope lenses) along with experience running an optical testing lab.
**A Master's degree can substitute some years of experience.
**This systems experience should include: Aspects of systems engineering including trade studies, requirements flowdown, failure analysis, product life cycle support, documentation (e.g., test plans, test procedures, and reports), and process improvement
** Excellent trouble-shooting capability and analytical skills
** Ability to communicate system requirements, testing needs, debug information, and design concepts with other engineering disciplines.
** Willingness to communicate with vendors and customer teams and demonstrate system performance through leading (Sr. Systems Engineer) or supporting (Systems Engineer) factory and site acceptance testing.
Min 1 year of electrical and optical lab tool measurement experience, e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, microscopes, cameras, etc.
Min 5 years of experience w/ MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
Some travel expected from 5% to 15% possible.
This is an ITAR facility, U.S. persons required.
There is also another similar position open on the infrared team looking for experience in MEMS and wafer probing/testing and ideally CMOS.
