Job Description:

Who you are: You're passionate about the outdoors and thrive in the rugged terrain of forest landscapes. With a Bachelor's degree in Forest Management (or a related field) and at least five years of hands-on experience, you've mastered the art of vegetation control, reforestation, and even tackling the occasional slash pile burn. You're the type of person who doesn't shy away from the challenge of working independently in remote areas-actually, you kind of love it. You've got excellent people skills and can easily handle sensitive topics, like chemical applications or public concerns, with a calm and confident approach. You're organized, adaptable, and have experience juggling multiple contractors and projects, all while keeping safety a top priority. You take pride in your work, build strong relationships, and lead with integrity-making sure to set the bar high for everyone around you.

What the job is: As a Silviculture Area Forester, you will oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of intensive forest management (IFM) activities across up to 310,000 acres of timberland in western Washington. Reporting to the Forestry Operations Manager, you will oversee contractors, ensuring that projects like vegetation control, reforestation, and slash pile burning are completed efficiently and safely. You will also ensure that all forest management practices adhere to company policies and legal requirements while addressing any public concerns that may arise. In addition to managing day-to-day operations, you will play a key role in long-term planning, budgeting, and strategic decision-making to enhance the overall value of the tree farm.

This role involves:

  • Leading intensive forest management activities, including mechanical site preparation, vegetation control, and reforestation.
  • Administering contracts, overseeing contractor operations, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Managing sensitive issues like chemical applications and slash pile burning, requiring direct communication with adjacent landowners and regulatory agencies.
  • Implementing animal damage control measures to protect young plantations from wildlife, including deer, elk, and black bears.
  • Conducting plantation surveys, pre-commercial thinning, and roadside spraying to maintain healthy forest growth.
  • Planning and executing the forest fertilization program to enhance stand development.

What the department is like: The Land and Forest Management (LFM) department is a collaborative and dynamic team that values each member's expertise and input. The team encourages professional growth, open communication, and support for one another as work demands change. Whether working independently or as part of the team, you'll find a supportive environment where your contributions are valued, and your professional development is encouraged.

Compensation Details: Annual Salary Range: $68,100 - $102,200 per year. The pay range listed is just one component of Green Diamond's total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive a company-wide annual financial performance bonus, and the opportunity to receive an individual performance-based bonus, candidate referral bonuses, and spot bonuses.

Green Diamond offers generous benefits including medical/vision and dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan with match and profit sharing, and an employee assistance program. Reimbursements for work-related safety equipment, and wellness. Paid time off includes 9 designated and up to 2 floating (personal) holidays, minimum of 10 days' vacation (or per policy based on experience), 10 days of sick leave, 30 days of parental leave, 3 days of bereavement, jury duty, 1 volunteer day, and 5 family care days. A company vehicle for business use. Cell phone reimbursement for business use. More benefits information can be found at GreenDiamond.com.

Who Green Diamond is: We grow and nurture forests, a renewable resource to build homes, schools, and household necessities, harnessing carbon every single day we operate. We're a family-owned company that is guided by our values of environmental stewardship and supporting our local communities. We do what's right, even when it is the harder path to follow. We focus on the health and safety of our people first - by taking care of all of our resources, we plan to be here for another 130 years.
