Plant Engineer:

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Plant Engineer to join their dynamic team during a period of rapid growth. This is an on-site role offering a career path with opportunities for management. The Plant Engineer will be instrumental in supporting the company's ambitious expansion plans by developing and optimizing production processes and equipment. The ideal candidate will be deadline-oriented, collaborative, and proactive, with a strong passion for continuous improvement.

This is an on-site position in Milwaukie, Oregon.

Plant Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and improve production process methods and product quality.
  • Enhance equipment productivity through error-proofing and assessing overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Design food processing and packaging equipment.
  • Prepare proposals for new equipment, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and determine return on investment.
  • Assist with equipment installation planning and manage details for new product launches.
  • Execute process analyses and validate process changes.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis to improve production processes.
  • Identify process waste and implement Lean processes to minimize downtime.
  • Develop manufacturing process instructions and documentation.
  • Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods to identify the root cause of failures and recommend process improvements.
  • Lead system-level Process Improvement (PI) initiatives.
  • Support production employees and maintenance teams in troubleshooting manufacturing issues.
  • Continuously improve manufacturing systems' rates, efficiencies, yields, and costs.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and food safety regulations, including FDA, SQF, and GMP standards.
  • Report food safety and quality concerns to supervisors or department managers.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Plant Engineer Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage multiple projects with strict deadlines.
  • Strong ability to translate strategy into actionable processes or projects.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong teamwork skills, creativity, emotional intelligence, and direct communication style.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Skilled in creating detailed and informative reports.
  • Proficiency in technical design, production principles, and understanding of blueprints and technical plans.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), ERP systems, and CAD software.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to find simple solutions to complex problems.
  • Expertise in root cause analysis and Lean manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with SQF, GMP, and HACCP programs.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and capable of handling problems effectively.
  • Ability to communicate in English and work in environments with potential food allergens.
