Job Description:

As the Service Manager, based in Pittsburgh, PA, you will oversee the maintenance and repair operations for the company's heavy equipment and fleet. You will lead a team of mechanics, technicians, and support staff, ensuring that all machinery, trucks, and other equipment are functioning optimally to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and effective planning to meet the company's standards for safety, quality, and production timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Supervision:
  • Manage and lead the maintenance department, including mechanics, technicians, and shop support staff.
  • Assign tasks and work orders, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement among the team.

Maintenance Operations:
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a preventive maintenance schedule for all heavy equipment, trucks, and fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in equipment.
  • Coordinate and perform repairs in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime.

Inventory & Parts Management:
  • Manage parts inventory, ensuring that necessary components are available for timely repairs.
  • Work with vendors to source parts and negotiate pricing, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Implement systems to track and manage equipment repair history and parts usage.

Budgeting & Cost Control:
  • Prepare and manage the maintenance department's budget, ensuring cost control while maintaining high-quality service.
  • Analyze maintenance costs and work to improve operational efficiency and reduce expenses without sacrificing quality or safety.

Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations, both internal and external.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits, ensuring that all equipment is up to code and meets safety standards.
  • Stay updated on OSHA and DOT regulations related to equipment and fleet management.

Vendor & Contractor Relations:
  • Work with external service providers for specialized repairs or maintenance when needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with equipment manufacturers, vendors, and contractors to ensure timely and cost-efficient service.

Reporting & Documentation:
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and equipment performance.
  • Report regularly to senior management on the status of the fleet, budget, and any issues or concerns that arise.

Training & Development:
  • Identify training needs and facilitate training programs for mechanics and technicians.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in equipment technology, ensuring the team is well-informed.
