Job Summary:

The Test Engineer is a key role within the Product Assurance & Test team, as well as the engineering team, focused at delivering the highest levels of performance to the platform and crew for the Small Multipurpose Mission Equipment Transport (S-MET), Medium Heavy Combat Vehicle (MHCV) and the XM30 Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) program.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and support both system, subsystem and component level trials.
  • Development of instrumentation lists to support data collection needs of internal customers
  • Procurement, checkout and dry run of instrumentation.
  • The reduction and analysis of test data collected, and documenting the results
  • Provide input to engineering to support test data acquisition.
  • Assist in the development of standard test procedures and methodologies.
  • Manage and assist peers in the specification/ selection, procurement, calibration, maintenance and retirement of test equipment
  • Write and assist others in the writing of test documentation (test plans, test procedures, test reports, test logs, etc.)
  • Support test activities in the field such as DAQ setup, data collection, and test site interface
  • Assist/manage the shipping of vehicle, parts and equipment between Sterling Heights, Test Sites and supplier facilities
  • Write and assist others in the writing of test incident reports, to include distribution, failure analyses, corrective action and management reports
  • Install and monitor test instrumentation during testing of ARV vehicles
  • Support and adhere to all company safety and environmental regulations & policies
  • Manage relationships with all stakeholders to ensure performance is optimized and be able to manage the political dimensions associated with a high-profile program
  • Lead and mentor training for test engineers in data acquisition, instrumentation and data reduction
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time. Occasional travel to Europe may be required
  • Undertake other duties as determined by the Vehicle Test Manager or his/her delegate

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems) or a related field.
  • 4-6 years of experience with data acquisition and installation of recording devices such as data loggers, accelerometers, strain gauges, and other test instrumentation, preferably in DoD ground vehicles.
  • Experience with data reduction techniques and analysis tools like MATLAB or LabVIEW.
  • Familiarity with military standards, US DoD processes, and procedures for vehicle development and procurement.

Education:

  • BSc in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems)

Experience:

  • 4-6 years of experience with the installation and recording data from recording devices, such as data loggers, a variety of sensors such as accelerometers, strain gauges, video cameras and other test instrumentation, preferably on DoD ground vehicles.
  • Experience in managing multiple vehicles under test.
  • Proven experience in practical ‘hands on’ experience with the ability to operate independently.
  • Ability to present technical solutions to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in data reduction to formats that are usable by engineers for analysis
  • Proven experience in coordinating multiple stakeholders requirements to meet program objectives
  • Knowledge of the US DoD process and procedures for vehicle development and procurement.
  • Knowledge of Military Standards and regulations.
  • Experience with data acquisition software, such as MATLAB/Labview.
  • Experience with Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Project a must.
  • Knowledge in Systems Engineering and related Standards/ Processes
