Your Role:



As an IT Business Partner for the Specialty Gases business unit at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, you will be a strategic partner in aligning IT services with the specific needs of the Specialty Gases business unit. You will play a critical role in driving IT initiatives, managing complex projects, and ensuring that IT solutions are effectively integrated to support business objectives. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and an in-depth understanding of both IT and the Specialty Gases business.


Strategic Alignment & Planning:


Collaborate with the Specialty Gases business leaders to understand their strategic goals, operational needs, and challenges. Develop and refine IT strategies that align with the business unit's objectives, ensuring IT initiatives support growth and innovation. Serve as a strategic advisor on IT matters, influencing the direction and resource allocation for IT projects and solutions within the business unit. As part of your portfolio management responsibility, you will be accountable for shaping, steering and delivering the global demands within this domain for the IT project portfolio. In collaboration with dedicated project managers, you will be overseeing all projects in the portfolio within your purview, supporting the creation of solid business cases, and ensuring the effective delivery and adherence to budget and time.


Relationship Management:


Act as the primary IT liaison for the Specialty Gases business unit leadership (L2, L3 and select L4's), maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders. This position reports to the Managing Business Partner for the combined business units of Delivery Systems and Services and Specialty Gases. Your role is to serve as a collaborator and partner to your counterpart (IT Business Partner for the Delivery Systems and Services) in a peer capacity.


Authority & Organizational Impact:


Accountable for setting the IT technical direction for the Specialty Gases business unit. Influence strategic decisions in the IT domain that impact the performance and competitive advantage of the business unit. Lead small to medium-sized teams or cross-functional projects with moderate to significant resource requirements, risk, and complexity. The role significantly impacts the achievement of critical business objectives within the Specialty Gases BU, contributing to both operational success and strategic growth. The IT Business Partner will also play a key role in driving innovation and ensuring that IT services provide a competitive advantage for the business unit. This role will be located in the US.



Who You Are:




Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field

  • Working knowledge of chemistry or chemical engineering considered a plus

  • Substantial to extensive experience in IT business partnering, project management, or a related field (8 to 10 years), preferably within a technical or manufacturing environment

  • Strong knowledge of the semiconductor materials industry or similar technical sectors considered highly desirable




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Proven ability to manage complex IT projects and deliver solutions that align with business objectives

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex business challenges

  • Working knowledge of IT governance, compliance, and risk management practices

  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems (preferably SAP) and data/digital platforms in the manufacturing and supply chain spaces
