Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $56,600 - Midpoint: $73,600 (Salaried E9)



Department/Organization: 219101 - University Libraries



Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm



Job Summary: The Research Computing Library Specialist leads a team of undergraduate Data and Informatics Student Assistants that support faculty and students with computational related research including teaching coding workshops, developing tutorials (computational notebooks, blogs, videos, etc.), and assisting researchers with custom scripts for programmatic acquisition of information, data manipulation, data analysis, data visualization, and high-performance computing. Trains student programmers. Monitors student goals and projects. Assists with student led workshops. Provides code reviews and feedback on student developer projects. Assists faculty and students with individual computing projects. Maintains the University Libraries computational related online projects and workshop repositories.



Additional Department Summary: Leads daily operations of University Libraries expanding computational research services. Contributes to internal projects such as introductory artificial intelligence topics, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), cloud computing, workflow automation, research web applications, etc. Assists librarians with research computing. Develops additional computational related tutorials. Provides introductory instruction related to programming and computational research (python programming, Linux operating systems, data visualization, graphic processor-based computing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, high performance computing, etc.).



Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of IT experience; OR High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of IT experience.



Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of programming experience; OR High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of programming experience.



Skills and Knowledge: Ability to teach and work with students. Service mindset approach. Self-motivated. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to lead and mentor students. Ability to quickly learn new programming skills. Ability to solve problems and develop workflow solutions.



Preferred Qualifications: Computational research experience in any field. Intermediate programming experience with Python. Knowledge of addition programming languages such as R, C, C++, Matlab, Mathematica, etc. Experience with artificial intelligence/machine learning, high performance computing, GPU programming, and/or Linux and Bash.
