Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe School of Architecture welcomes applications for a faculty position to be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor on tenure track. Under a university-wide hiring plan entitled RISE 100 (details below), the School is seeking a catalytic, collaborative leader who can innovatively contribute to the college's evolving design research and externally funded agenda. The goal of this position is to enhance academic and research activities that advance the mission of the School and maintain its national reputation as a distinguished leader in design education, in the area of Architectural Design Theory. The ideal candidate should have an established research and/or design portfolio with appropriate external funding, and an ability to build cross-disciplinary teams in the College, UTA, and external organizations.Tenure Track faculty appointments have typical research, teaching, and service loads. This includes undergraduate and graduate instruction in the core curriculum for architectural theory, significant research contributions to their discipline through peer-reviewed publications of academic, professional, or other creative work, and academic service within the institution and the academic community at large.



Area of EmphasisSuccessful candidates will be able to establish and develop a nationally recognized research agenda in the area of Architectural Design Theory.


We are looking for a scholar of architecture whose research and/or design work contributes significantly to the intellectual life of our school, elevating the theoretical discourse of our community of faculty and students while maintaining an active role as a key architecture studio instructor. We are open to multiple perspectives regarding what constitutes Architectural Design Theory, from disciplinary analysis and theorization of buildings to the social or political contextualizing of architectureBelow, I have included a screenshot of the current text in that section, which needs to be replaced with the text above. Required Qualifications:



  • A PhD or advanced research degree in a relevant area of expertise

  • A minimum of one degree in architecture

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching architecture design studios.

  • Evidence of success in research and/or creative activity





Preferred Qualifications:



  • Professional or terminal degree in Architecture (B-Arch or M-Arch)

  • Demonstrated excellent design experience.


Department Information:

The UTA School of Architecture with over 50 years as a leading institution in architectural education, is home to over 1,100 students. The SoA offers a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (CIDA and NASAD accredited), Master of Architecture (NAAB accredited), Master of Science in Sustainable Building Technology, and undergraduate minors in Architectural History and Environmental and Sustainability Studies. Also, the School partners with the Civil Engineering Department to offer a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering. In a metropolitan region rich with possibilities for research, creative practice, and cultural exploration, the SoA maintains strong ties to the large professional design community of Dallas and Fort Worth, the fourth largest metro area in the country. Along with the School of Architecture, CAPPA includes the Landscape Architecture Program, and Department of Public Affairs and Planning. CAPPA institutes have forged numerous partnerships throughout the DFW Metropolitan area and include Arlington Urban Design Center (AUDC), Center for Metropolitan Density (CFMD), Center for Transportation, Equity, Decisions and Dollars (CTEDD), Digital Architecture Research Consortium (DARC), David Dillon Center for Texas Architecture (DDC), and Institute of Urban Studies (IUS).
