Job Description:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at New Mexico State University invites applications for the position of Mgr., Scientific Instrumentations. (Req 501409, Position 199695) responsible for most scientific instruments in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry; Gives highest priority to timely, responsive maintenance and repair of department instrumentation; Provides expertise, as necessary, on the repair and maintenance questions for shared instrumentation and specialized equipment; Upgrades software and hardware as needed for department instruments; Organizes and conducts training sessions on instrumentation, methods and techniques for instructors and researchers (faculty and students); Acquires and/or writes and produces, maintains, and disseminates quality instrument training videos; Provides technical support for faculty on instrument matters relating to teaching and research including limited method development; Oversees instrument installation and setup; Co-manages the department repairs and maintenance budget to support the cost of department instrumentation upkeep; Communicates with staff/faculty point persons in support of instrumentation housed in the department; Organizes shared usage of all department instruments; Works with department chair, faculty, laboratory technicians and laboratory coordinators in long-range planning for instrument needs and acquisition, coordinating installation of new instruments; Participates in the departmental capital equipment request annual process; Keeps abreast of trends, developments, best practices, and technologies in the field of scientific instruments; Maintaining an accurate inventory of current instrumentation and maintenance records.
