Heluna Health is seeking a Workers’ Compensation Coordinator to join our team. Under general direction, this position is responsible for facilitating the Workers’ Compensation claim handling process in accordance with established policies and procedures from inception until the claim is closed; evaluating accident and injury reports to determine accuracy and completeness; assisting in the investigation of workplace accidents; ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 


Pay range and compensation package: 


The salary range for this position is $27.40 to $31.67 per hour commensurate with experience.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Review accident and injury reports for accuracy and completeness.

  • Assist with the investigation of workplace accidents. 

  • Report claims information accurately and promptly to the appropriate third-party administrator (TPA). 

  • Initiate contact with injured employees to explain the Workers’ Compensation process as it relates to the injured employee. Provide an overview of your role, the role of their Claims Examiner, and the return-to-work program. Also, confirm injury details for accuracy of claims reporting.

  • Document conversations and maintain an accurate electronic file of communication related to the injured employee’s Workers’ Compensation claim.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with injured employees, supervisors, and claims examiners. 

  • Assist the Claims Examiner with obtaining additional information, such as earnings reports and return-to-work dates, for servicing and handling of each claim.

  • Create action items for follow-ups (e.g., work status, QME/AME appointments, etc.).

  • Obtain medical note from the injured employees after each medical visit to determine if accommodation is needed or return to work date.

  • When necessary, contact Physician’s office to obtain work status.

  • Act as liaison between the injured employee’s physician, nurse case manager, and management to gain a timely return-to-work release.

  • Consult with physician, insurance carrier, and employee’s supervisor to facilitate the employee’s return to work. 

  • Discuss essential functions of the position with Supervisor to determine appropriate accommodations.

  • Engage injured employees in the Interactive Process.

  • Complete Reasonable Accommodation Agreement Forms for accommodations.

  • Communicate injured employees’ need for a leave of absence with the Leave of Absence Office. 

  • Monitor lost time and modified duty cases. 

  • Create, maintain and accurately update injury information into UKG for OSHA logs.

  • Distribute OSHA logs for yearly posting.

  • Work closely with third-party administrator to resolve claims as soon as feasible. 

  • Understand State Compensation Laws and stay current with changes in the law to ensure that procedures are updated to include required changes.

  • May be assigned administrative tasks or projects related to safety. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS



  • Working knowledge of the Workers' Compensation laws and regulations.

  • Strong value of service to others with the ability to make decisions in compliance with departmental standards is required.

  • Attention to detail and an excellent customer service-oriented approach is a must. 

  • Must have the ability to handle highly confidential information with the utmost care and discretion is required. 

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, body systems and/or impairments and their disabling effects. 

  • Working knowledge of office procedures and files. 

  • Ability to obtain facts that ensure that claims information is complete and accurate. 

  • Ability to track claims to their successful and timely completion.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize heavy casework loads and efficiently process claims. 

  • Previous computer experience is required with HRIS, payroll, and/or injury tracking systems.

  • Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers and clients. 

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Education/Experience 



  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Associate’s degree, or equivalent education and/or work experience preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience administering workers’ compensation, safety, loss control, and accident prevention is required.

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances



  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), OSHA certification, or workers’ compensation certification preferred.
