Terms:One-year fixed-term position




JOB PURPOSE:


The Associate Director, Legal Innovation will work under the direction of the Center Co-Directors and the Executive Director to develop, implement, and administer the Center's vision, strategy, and goals related to the impact of generative AI on the civil justice system, including how AI might affect courts, legal aid, the legal profession, and the public. The Associate Director will develop research, scholarship, and policy goals to increase the Center's leadership on these and related topics.




CORE DUTIES:


  • In partnership with the Co-Directors and other staff, oversee and administer research activities on AI and other legal technological developments for the Rhode Center for existing projects, including but not limited to the Filing Fairness Project and the Legal Innovation Project; make recommendations on project development and implementation; work with team to execute projects.



  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends in AI and the civil justice system.



  • Possible opportunities to teach alongside Faculty Co-Directors and other staff and/or assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Create and/or advise in the development of curriculum. Make recommendations for course improvements.



  • Write and edit content for a variety of work product outputs, including public comments, op eds, white papers, policy briefs, law review articles, project proposals, etc. Assist with the development of research grants, (i.e., may suggest new funding opportunities, write portions of grants, and/or summarize data for grant support).



  • Represent the Rhode Center and the specific projects for which the Associate Director is responsible or is assisting in leading as the key contact and subject matter expert and develop communications for internal and external constituencies. Organize and/or participate in outreach activities such as events, partnerships, fundraising, training, and conferences. Lead workshops and facilitate meetings.



  • Work with Co-Directors and Executive Director to monitor expenses, budgets, and finances as needed. Make recommendations on funding based on program spend.



  • May oversee and train student workers, including student fellows and research assistants.





  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



    Education & Experience:


    Bachelor's degree and advanced degree (JD, Masters, and/or PhD in relevant areas) and two years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience.



    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated research (legal and social science) experience and skills.



  • Demonstrated oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.



  • Ability to oversee and provide basic direction to staff.








  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:


  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.



  • Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.



  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.



  • Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.



  • On-campus mobility.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • May work extended hours, evenings or weekends.

  • The expected pay range for this position is $61,362 to $89,431 per annum.
    Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
