The department of Medicine, division of Pulmonary Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Asst. Scientist to work on the UHealth campus. The Asst Scientist supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS




  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities and authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations.




  • Collaborates with senior staff to publish findings in refereed journals.




  • Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results.




  • Works with other researchers to use and develop end products.




  • Writes extramural proposals with approval from appropriate senior staff.




  • Provides ready access to all experimental data for managing staff




  • Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s).




  • Uses the internet, surveys, legal documents, and other available sources to collect information.




  • Applies for grants to continue research and prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.




  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.






Department Specific Functions




  • Attending regular meetings with mentors to review progress and outline research output.


  • Grant writing, human subject research and, research presentations, career development


  • Contributing significantly to study design, execution, and interpretation including the following scientific techniques using a plate reader to perform precise measurements on proteins (RNA, ELISAs), pulmonary function tests in rodents, western blots, and physiologic measurement of pulmonary hemodynamics that will allow for our analysis of the therapeutic mechanisms of estradiol in ARDS and will provide the necessary preclinical framework to consider estradiol in the treatment of ARDS.


  • Presenting research in progress conferences and relevant pulmonary or sleep national and international conferences


  • Preparing and submitting manuscripts.


  • Maintaining appropriate ethics training.


  • Generating progress reports for annual reporting requirements

CORE QUALIFICATIONS





  • Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree relevant field


  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
