Position Details:


Summary of Duties:


This positions primary duties are providing animal care as directed, making daily observations of facilities and pens to ensure facility security and animal safety and maintaining accurate records of daily animal care. This position may need to work occasional weekends and holidays per business needs. Management may also assign other duties and priorities when time allows or weather permits. Extra responsibilities may include performing fencing or animal penning repairs, new fence construction, and unloading of feed and bedding shipments. Must have a working knowledge in basic computer skills. This position must operate a variety of heavy equipment and farm machinery including but not limited to feed trucks, dump trucks, wheel tractors, PTO driven post augers, skid steer loaders and all related hand tools such as chain saws, circular saws, welders, wrenches, drills, and all other types of hand tools, etc.



This is a halftime (50% FTE), permanent position.




Schedule: Friday - Tuesday




Required Qualifications:


Depending on your level of experience, you may begin as a Farmer 1, Farmer 2 or Farmer 3.





  • Farmer 1 position: One year of experience in farm work or maintaining livestock, OR equivalent education/experience.





  • Farmer 2 position: Two years of experience in farm work or maintaining livestock; OR equivalent education/experience.





  • Farmer 3 position: Three years of experience in farm work or maintaining livestock, at least six months must include experience directing the work of others; OR equivalent education/experience.






Additional Qualification for all applicants:




  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.




  • Must be able to pass all mandatory training within two (2) weeks of hire.






Preferred Qualifications for all applicant:




  • Basic computer skills; including the ability to use learn Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Outlook, Word.




  • Experience working with and caring for equine, bovine, ovine, caprine, camelid and porcine species.




  • Experience in general maintenance and repair.




  • Experience working around large animals.




  • Experience hauling livestock with a truck and trailer.




  • Experience using farm related equipment - tractors, skid steers, trucks, gators, dump truck, hay squeeze and compactor.

Monthly Salary:



Farmer 1: $1,388.00 to $1,821.50 | Range 30 (Step A-M)



Farmer 2: $1,480.50 to $1,955.00 | Range 33 (Step A-M)



Farmer 3: $1,658.50 to $2,205.00 | Range 38 (Step A-M)



Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
