Job Description

The Warehouse Operator 1 supports the Procurement Services Department within Centralia College¿s Finance and Administration Division by facilitating the efficient flow of goods and services to the campus community.


This position plays a critical role in ensuring that supplies, materials, and equipment are received, processed, and distributed accurately and on time. This role supports the campus buyer and department director in maintaining smooth operations by managing technical aspects of procure to pay process, including receiving, inventory control, mail processing, and customer service.


The Warehouse Operator also provides essential support for print and reproduction services, contributes to maintaining organized office and storage environments, and delivers high-quality customer service to meet the needs of students, staff, and faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities


Receiving Functions:


    Unpacks, inspects, and verifies the accuracy of all goods received.

    Labels deliveries and allocates them to designated areas.

    Investigates and resolves shipment issues, including delays, errors, damaged goods, and discrepancies by contacting suppliers.

    Applies asset management inventory control tagging when appropriate.

    Coordinates and schedules freight deliveries with carriers and vendors.




Mail and Shipping Services:


    Ensures outgoing mail is labeled, stamped, and processed according to USPS guidelines.

    Sorts and distributes incoming mail into campus mailboxes.

    Prepares bulk mailings and coordinates daily USPS pick-up or delivery.

    Facilitates delivery of large or cumbersome packages in coordination with campus facilities staff or external vendors.




Customer Service:


    Provides in-person and telephone support, greeting and assisting walk-in customers with inquiries.

    Addresses customer questions, concerns, and complaints promptly, striving for satisfactory resolutions.

    Maintains a welcoming and organized reception area and coordinates with other departments as needed.

    Performs administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and scheduling.




Copy and Print Services:


    Operates copy machines and related equipment, diagnosing and performing routine maintenance as needed.

    Inspects completed print jobs to ensure they meet quality and specification standards.

    Assembles and prepares reproduced materials for distribution.




Additional Duties:


    Maintains order and cleanliness in the Procurement Services office and storage areas.

    Coordinates the delivery of supplies and mail.

    Monitors and replenishes office supplies for the department.

    Determines work priorities and schedules tasks to ensure efficient workflow.



Qualifications
    High School graduation or GED Certificate and physical ability to do required work and six (6) months of clerical or technical experience in retail clerking, warehousing, stock keeping, shipping, or receiving and operation of material handling equipment.



OR


    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration, apply.



Preferred Qualifications
    Knowledge of procurement, inventory control, and business arithmetic.

    Experience in warehouse, shipping/receiving, or mailroom environments.

    Proficiency in customer service and administrative tasks.

    Familiarity with USPS guidelines and procedures.

    Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers and peripheral devices.

    Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks.

    Forklift certification (preferred).

    Basic understanding of safety and compliance standards in shipping/receiving.




Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Knowledge:


    Understanding of warehouse safety protocols, including OSHA regulations and proper lifting techniques.

    Familiarity with receiving, storing, and shipping processes.




Skills:


    Technical proficiency with procurement and/or supply chain management systems or software, warehouse management systems, inventory control software, and office equipment.

    Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.




Abilities:


    Physical stamina to perform tasks in a fast-paced environment.

    Attention to detail in inventory management and adherence to safety standards.

    Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to evolving tasks and technologies.



Physical Requirements
    Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.

    Capability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

    Exposure to varying temperatures, dust, chemicals, and equipment noise is expected.

    Ability to perform essential physical tasks such as reaching, handling, and grasping.



Conditions of Employment

This is a full-time non-permanent up to 12-months position. Classified employees are represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE). The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees including education benefits.

COMPENSATION


Monthly Salary: Range 32G ($3,317 - $3,728)


Hourly Salary: Range 32G ($19.06 - $21.43)
