Position Summary:


The MSU Extension Master Gardener (EMG) Volunteer Coordinator will provide support to EMGs across the Mid-Michigan region. Responsibilities will include communication with EMGs, customer service, assisting with the Volunteer Selection Process, and other technical support functions.



Characteristic Duties/Responsibilities:

Coordinator will have broad responsibilities in support of EMGs and the EMG Program. Coordinator will serve as primary contact with EMGs and support EMGs in completion of program requirements, including helping connect EMGs with volunteer opportunities. Coordinator will assist Extension Educator with recruiting and screening prospective volunteers, monitoring EMG progress, entering data into software, generating reports, and other duties as assigned.


Ten - nineteen hours per week are expected for this role, and many of the duties may be performed remotely on a flexible schedule. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to facilitate programming.


Desired Qualifications

  • Current EMG in good standing with 2-years experience in the program.

  • Comfortable communicating with volunteers over the phone, in person, and in front of groups.

  • Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences to assist with program development and outreach.

  • Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.

  • Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).

  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
