In alignment with the mission, programs and initiatives of MSU Extension, delivers research-based information to program participants through various methods and/or provides support and coordination of MSU Extension programs.

Position Summary:


As a Wayne County MSU Extension 4-H team member, you will oversee program/project promotion that foster inclusion by recognizing and valuing diverse perspectives, skills and experiences, while working to create equal access to programming.


Provide leadership for county-based 4-H Youth programs through 4-H clubs, after school programs, short term/special interest programs, and/or school enrichment efforts with a commitment to provide inclusive and accessible opportunities across diverse audiences.


Prepare and submit necessary information and documentation to ensure adherence to MSU Extension administrative policies, procedures and deadlines.


Provide information and opportunities for learning through the use of accessible technology, mass media, group meetings, workshops and individual contacts.


Provide local leadership in strengthening public understanding that 4-H is for all youth.


Other duties or projects as assigned by the supervisor.


Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience in youth and/or program development with a focus on Agriculture Education.

  • Non-formal education teaching experience.

  • Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.) for day-to-day work, record keeping, reporting, and team-based communications.

  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.

  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.

  • Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.

  • Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences to assist with program development and outreach.
