Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance, Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Cleanroom: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair etc... allowed, No eye contacts allowed; prescriptive glasses will be provided, Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.)

Position Summary



At Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., you'll have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work that impacts the world positively. As a Formulation Scientist I in our manufacturing team, you will be a vital part of our mission to build a healthier, cleaner, and safer world. You will work in a Value Stream environment, managing multi-stage production processes to prepare and formulate serums and clinical diagnostic assays. This role is based in Middletown, Va and will strictly adhere to GMP/FDA requirements, ensuring flawless execution of production protocols.


What will you do?


  • Calculate raw material volumes required for each batch to meet manufacturing schedules and product specifications.

  • Follow detailed processing documentation to process base serums, Clinical Chemistry reagents, intermediates, and final serum products.

  • Plan all intermediates to ensure target production dates for final product formulation are met.

  • Prepare and inspect equipment for use in chemical and bio-formulations, including setting up pumps, filters, tubing connections, and mixers.

  • Accurately calculate and mix chemicals with diluents under controlled conditions as per production processes.

  • Clean and maintain all equipment routinely.

  • Maintain complete and accurate production records in compliance with GMP and FDA requirements.

  • Perform basic laboratory analytical testing.

  • Successfully perform line openings and closings.

  • Input data into a computerized material control system.

  • Continuously monitor work area for safety and quality, taking immediate action to address any inaccurate conditions.

  • Operate lifting equipment if required.

  • Adhere to all safety requirements, including PPE.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications



  • Bachelors degree in Science or Medical Technology, or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent math and communication skills with a working knowledge of the metric system.

  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate and prioritize work.

  • Familiarity with internal production processes and computer applications (MS Office).

  • Knowledge of GMP and ISO requirements.

  • Ability to work effectively with team members at all levels.

  • Familiarity with SAP transactions is a plus.

  • Flexible around work hours, available for overtime as necessary.

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Demonstrated good safety and quality practices.

  • Good attendance history is required.


Physical Requirements



  • Frequent communication and walking to other areas where designated PPE will be required.

  • Must successfully complete a Respirator Fit Test within 6 months of hire.

  • Position requires sitting, standing, and the ability to lift materials weighing up to 110 pounds. Traditional lifting techniques for materials up to 50 lbs; non-traditional techniques and equipment for heavier items.
