Description:

Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to assure assessment, treatment, and care is appropriate to the age of the patients served: Neonate (Birth-4 weeks), Infant (4 weeks-1 year), Toddler (1-3 years), Pre-School (3-6 years), School Age (6-12 years), Adolescent (12-18 years), Early Adulthood (19-45 years), Middle Adulthood (46-60 years), Later Adulthood (Over 61 years).



* Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the Patient's needs.



* Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of growth and development.



* Demonstrates an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.



* Performs other related job duties within job scope as requested by supervisor.



* Accompanies and assists surgeon on his hospital rounds.



* Assess patient and initiates appropriate medical intervention when necessary. Reports to physician as well as charge nurse any medical situation which calls for immediate attention.



* Follows physician's orders and conducts procedures in a knowledgeable/confident manner such as changing dressings, removing drains, etc.



* Completes patient s history and record for physician office use, completes ongoing complication forms and helps administering post-operative patient evaluation forms.



* Displays compassion and understanding with patients consistent with Standard of Excellence principles.



* Responds appropriately to patient questions.



* Writes post-operative orders on surgical patients and initiates discharge planning.



* Instructs and counsels patient and family regarding pre, post and discharge instructions as necessary.



Assists physician/conducts treatments/procedures in the office




* Takes accurate patient medical history and vitals as requested.



* Arranges operative schedule, surgical assistants and special anesthesia needs as per physician's orders.



* Provides preoperative teaching to patients.



* Assists physician with procedures and treatments (aspirations, injections, wound treatments, dressing changes, etc.) reassuring patient during procedure.



* Evaluates traction or brace containment devices as necessary. Removes staples and sutures on all postoperative patients.



* Obtains required consents from patient.



* Documents accurately and timely in patients record, all treatment/procedures done and initials documentation.



* Prepares preoperative charts and obtains specific medical orders from internist when necessary.



* Checks for completion of preoperative orders, labs and medical evaluations. Informs physician of any patient problem/contradictions using appropriate judgment as to the urgency of the situation.



Follows safety standards. Utilizes protective equipment when necessary




* Follows OSHA guidelines regarding body substance, isolation, disposal of sharps, etc.



* Observes aseptic techniques as applicable



* Maintains all equipment in proper working order.



* Informs physician or manager of equipment failure or potential safety hazard.



Interacts in a professional manner with all members of the health team; Participates in organizational development.




* Assures responsibility for continued professional growth and competency.



* Keeps abreast of current changes and trends in the health care industry.



* Demonstrates reliability in accepting and fulfilling various roles in the overall staffing plan and maintains attendance without excessive absenteeism.



* Interacts in an open, cooperative fashion with employees, physicians, patients and all other contacts within the Holy Cross Medical Group and Holy Cross Hospital to create a positive work climate, high employee morale and a superb image and reputation of our institution.



Minimum Qualifications:




* Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.



Licensure:




* Registered nurse in the State of Florida



* Current BLS Required
