Job Description:

The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont seeks applicants for 2 full-time 9-month, lecturer/senior lecturer positions beginning in Fall, 2025. The occupants of these positions will teach in the Colleges Counseling Programs. Successful candidates will have a School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling background and be equity-centered, with teaching and supervision experience rooted in a cultural humility framework.

Once hired, the candidates will be expected to teach and provide clinical supervision within a variety of CACREP informed courses and seminars. We invite applications at the rank of lecturer or senior lecturer. The College
The Department of Counseling, Human Development and Family Science is situated within the College of Education and Social Services. The Department of Counseling, Human Development and Family Science
The Counseling Program is housed within the Department of Counseling, Human Development and Family Science (CHDF). The CHDF Department strives to advance the science and professional practice of critically conscious human services and counseling professionals. To this end, we offer undergraduate and graduate programs that focus on the examination of the dynamics of intimate and other close interpersonal relationships, as well as the promotion of healthy development of individuals, relationships, families and communities. Our pedagogy and curriculum are grounded in culturally responsive social justice principles of expanding access to services; promoting diversity, equity and inclusion; and examining pathways to interrupting systemic barriers to positive development and healthy relationships. At the undergraduate level, we offer a program in Human Development and Family Science, and ourCACREPAccredited masters degree programs include School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Programs, including a dual option. A new Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Supervision was launched in Fall, 2024.

The Community
UVMis located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country. The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on the shore of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. The surrounding area provides an environment rich in cultural, civic and recreational activities. Vermont has a deep history of social activism and political participation. It offers many opportunities for collaborative partnerships in community and state-wide human service and social change organizations in multiple fields of practice, including state agencies.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that may include:

  • Teaching primarily courses at the masters level focused on both school counseling and clinical mental health counseling;
  • Providing clinical supervision at the masters level;
  • Advising masters and doctoral students in the Counseling Programs;
  • Sharing rotating coordination roles and activities within the Counseling programs, including oversight of curriculum; student recruitment, admissions, and advising.
  • Collaborating with Department faculty and staff in departmental governance, program development, and service;
  • Serving as an active member of relevant professional associations and/or scholarly societies; and
  • Engaging in service and outreach activities at the college and university levels.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from aCACREPaccredited program;
  • Licensed or licensed eligible in either school counseling or clinical mental health counseling
  • Evidence of equity oriented, social justice work within the counseling profession;
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate level;
  • Evidence of effective clinical supervision of counseling students;
  • Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills;
  • Hold appropriate professional counseling certifications and be eligible for licensure in Vermont; and
  • Evidence of counselor educator identity and affiliation with related professional Counseling and counselor education organizations.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating/managing an inhouse clinic as well as field placement sites
