Job Description:

SUMMARY

This person will be a member of a cross-functional engineering team focused on the development and implementation of products, processes and tooling to build windows, doors, and related accessories.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Demonstrates the "Pella Total Competitiveness System" through projects associated with growth, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Exemplifies a "hands-on" approach and a bias for action with the Manufacturing Team.
  • Leads and/or participates in continuous improvement efforts and 3P events.
  • Develops estimates for time, cost, and quality for projects. Manages project details including task lists, timelines, and milestones.
  • Designs, specifies and/or modifies specialty tooling, fixtures, and machines.
  • Promotes safety through design and actions.
  • Applies advanced computer skills such as CAD, (both 2-D and/or 3-D systems), and Solid Edge in the development and design of both machine & product components and or systems.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Oracle MP2, Thrive, Agile and has an aptitude to learn as technology evolves.
  • Communicates specifications and key issues with external vendors on material or equipment purchases.
  • Confirms that material and equipment purchases are according to specifications through statistical run-off of equipment and appropriate material and component testing.
  • Communicates and works cross functionally with IT, Product Management, Supply Management, and Manufacturing as needed to gather input, provide information, and plan the implementation of projects.
  • Exemplifies interest and a desire for machine integration with data & information flow systems. Machine programming experience and optimization of equipment is a plus.
  • Performs logical reasoning such as the methodical debugging of equipment or assembly lines to ensure most productive and cost-effective manufacturing systems are operational.
  • Implements capital projects from the preparation of appropriation requests to installation of equipment.
  • Overtime, odd hours, and moderate travel are required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred; and six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Word, Excel, Power Point, CAD 3 D Modeling, Oracle, Thrive, Agile, and Solid Edge. PLC and HMI programming pertaining to machine integration with Mfg Data Systems is preferred, but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Class "B" electrical license, and lift truck license.
