Job Summary:

This position is designed to undertake a variety of inspection and testing procedures, as well as verify production and incoming materials meet quality standards. These activities will include regular interaction with the shop floor employees and VPI management.

Some job responsibilities will be manual and simplistic while others will be more technical and analytical. Accordingly, the job requires physical fitness but also the ability to collect, upload, present, and explain inspection/testing results.

Additionally, a VPI Quality Technician must be able to follow directions and meet deadlines, however, upon receiving instruction and direction, work alone and independently for much of the shift. VPI Quality Technicians must have a passion for the work and moving things forward demonstrating the ability to be successful in a fast-paced, dynamic, and shifting priority environment. Following safe working practices at all times is essential.

Hours:
  • 9:30pm - 5:30am
  • Training will occur on 1st shift (7:00am to 3:00pm) for 2-3 weeks, then transfer to normal shift hours.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform 1st piece and hourly inspections of production materials for color, size, shape, and cosmetics as well as document results of both incoming materials and manufactured products to ensure compliance with the standard.
  • Interact with production employees to ensure a thorough understanding of quality expectations.
  • Execute laboratory testing as needed in accordance with standard ASTM procedures, making observations and interpreting findings. Perform tests on VPI floor products to make sure that they meet standards and specifications.
  • Record all inspection data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility. Prepare reports, charts, and graphs.
  • Organize and store all chemicals, materials, equipment, samples, and data (paper and electronic copies) in a safe and orderly fashion.
  • Set up and maintain laboratory and inspection equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Assist with cycle count program.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Proven experience as a Quality Technician, Quality Control Inspector, or a demonstrated ability to quickly grow into the position. A "DIY attitude and skillset" as well as the ability to work independently.
  • The ability to discern color and a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to utilize various measuring tools/gauges to successfully verify production.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems
  • Ability to work autonomously and to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communicator - both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with flooring products, installation, maintenance, and composition is desirable.
  • Ability to work autonomously, with a proven record of multitasking and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to run/learn to run a floor buffer and various power tools used for inspection processes.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • A degree in chemistry, quality, or another relevant field would be of significant advantage
  • 3 years experience in Quality
  • Experience in the Plastics Industry is preferred
