The Assistant Director, Programs administers program resources to fulfill the program's mission in accordance with priorities, and time and budget requirements. Moreover, the incumbent performs work of an administrative, managerial, and professional nature. The Assistant Director, Programs also provides leadership for developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic plans to meet institutional goals related to the assigned program(s).
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Represents the University with the public, University officials, government agencies, accrediting councils, and other professional membership organizations. Creates and updates training materials for staff, faculty, and outside offices. Manages and oversees the coordination of current students programming, including activities outside the school, special events, and networking events. Supervises department personnel, including student employees, and ensures that staff is trained, developed, and empowered to effectively to do their jobs. Plans, monitors, and analyzes program budget including monthly projections and trends. Manages all aspects of the program(s) including program development, marketing, and recruitment. Facilitates general advertisement including editing and updating brochures and applications, marketing and advertisement materials, webpage, and correspondence. Develops and implements operational processes for handling inquiries and applicants. Manages processes for application, registration, advising, contact, evaluation, transcripts, and certificates. Manages all formal documentation for matters involving accreditation, curriculum, and programs, including quality control through the graduation clearance process. Assists and advises students in their overall goal development and achievement. Evaluates student credentials in relation to program standards and makes recommendations to possible alternative programs. Coordinates course offerings and general direction of the program with key faculty, department chairs, and deans. Coordinates and assists faculty in developing and implementing assessment plans, assessment methods, and instruments. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

The Center for Academic Navigation and Student Success is a department dedicated to supporting undergraduate students in reaching their goal of a University of Miami degree. Providing individualized help and support, the Success team supports current students in overcoming obstacles that could interfere with completing their UM degree.
Job Description:
The Assistant Director, Programs, works with undergraduate students to ensure their persistence and success at the University of Miami. The Assistant Director will be responsible for positively impacting the University's retention and graduation rates by managing programs and services designed to increase student persistence to graduation, including but not limited to management of the GPAid program, the First Hires program, and the Canes Complete program. The role will also be responsible for managing two student employees, and intervention and outreach efforts for students exhibiting at-risk behaviors, supporting students who have been readmitted and collaborating with students and their families to understand enrollment options when facing challenges to their success.
This position reports to the Director, Student Retention and works collaboratively with all the departments within Academic Affairs, liaisons within the schools and colleges, and campus partners, as needed. The Assistant Director develops, coordinates, and assists in the planning and execution of strategies and programs aimed to help students navigate challenges they may face during their undergraduate career and will help to manage the student-facing, operational aspects of the Student Success Center. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for ongoing training and support of Student Advocates within the department and will provide registration services for the First Year Directions Freshman Seminar program.
