Description of Work:

Nebraska Extension is seeking applications for a college and career readiness position at the rank of Extension Professor. This 12-month (calendar year), non-tenure track appointment will bring together the resources of Nebraska Extension, Academic Services Enrollment Management (ASEM), and UNL Admissions to create, deliver, and evaluate world-class learning experiences focused on comprehensive educational programs of excellence in career and college readiness. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln strives to ensure that innovative programming, translational research, and learning opportunities promote equity and inclusion. The apportionment is 100% extension. This position will be located in Lincoln, Nebraska.


The successful candidate will maximize college and career readiness programming, education, engagement, and UNL student recruitment by bringing together programming and resources of 4-H Youth Development, ASEM, and UNL Admissions to carry out a visionary, contemporary, and collaborative higher education student development and enrollment effort, as well as provide the leadership for program implementation.



Specific Duties


  • Build an inclusive framework, in partnership with extension educators, around college access and success that can be used to guide Nebraska youth programming.

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programming and professional development around that framework to engage youth in opportunities for college access and retention, with a special focus on new and underserved audiences.

  • Partner with ASEM and the Office of Admissions to understand recruitment processes, timelines, and retention strategies.

  • Collaborate with ASEM to hire, onboard, and supervise staff executing local program delivery.

  • Build organizational capacity by engaging in a collaborative learning environment with young people, volunteers, extension educators, and local leaders to apply research-based information through positive youth development programming.

  • Provide education/recruitment for parents/families on strategies for navigating enrollment and transitioning their students to higher education.

  • Partner with other entities involved in this work (school districts, other youth-serving organizations, community groups, etc.) to develop statewide excellence and reach.

  • Use entrepreneurial practices to secure grants, program fees, and partnerships (including program adoption by other states) to leverage the extension educational program's resource base and reach.

  • Develop a professional development plan to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship, education, youth development, and extension pedagogy.

Minimum Required Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in education or a closely related field at the time of hire.

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in student recruitment and strategic student engagement.

  • Experience teaching youth and adult audiences in non-formal educational settings.

  • Experience working with 4-H and extension audiences.

  • Demonstrated skills in team leadership.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working with underserved audiences.

  • Experience with staff professional development.
