Position Overview


Supervises all phases of concrete plant operation including record-keeping and maintenance. In addition to operating the plant, the employee will assist with the coordination of daily plant activities like batching plant materials by maintaining controls to weigh, mix cement, aggregate and water to produce concrete that meets processing specifications and ensure product is loaded correctly.



Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Ability to be flexible with last minute changes in schedule, location, and shift.
  • Attention to detail, safety adherence and follow specific instructions from management.
  • Must partner with other plant employees to maintain plant operations as instructed by management to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
  • Monitor all plant operations; coordinate and monitor daily workload throughout the plant, monitor plant cleanliness and oversee maintenance needs as they arise.
  • Record daily usages and current inventories of materials and ensures that plant does not run short on supply of cement, sand, rock, fly ash, calcium, admixture etc.
  • Ensure daily production reports are completed and sent to office, check delivery tickets for accuracy, collect COD orders and follow office procedures.
  • Initiative to perform/assist with other positions for optimal plant performance.
  • Ability to adhere to all PPE (personal protective equipment) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition as supplied by company.
  • Attendance required according to company Attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal efficiency levels.
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Assists in maintenance of plant equipment and in compiling reports regarding plant production and plant maintenance.
  • Inspection of plant and safety items required at the end of each shift.
  • Attitude/cooperation: always maintaining courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public.
  • Ability to multi-task is essential.



Qualifications


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.


Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • General maintenance knowledge in a plant environment
  • Related experience and/or training preferred but willing to train the ideal applicant.
  • ACI Level 1 will be required within 6 months.
  • TDOT Batch Plant Operator Certification will be required within 6 months.
  • Ability to operate front end loader and skid steer.


Work Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively to ensure all plant personnel understand what is expected and what needs are lacking.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 90 feet wearing appropriate PPE to perform maintenance or repair to plant components (ex: silo, drag slats, traverse, bag house, elevators, batch towers, drum/mixer, conveyors) utilizing ladders, stairs, manlifts and catwalks.
  • If operating company vehicle, employee must meet Driver Qualification Standard.



Physical Requirements


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Physical ability to perform maintenance on plant under extreme temperatures and for extended hours of time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders to top of plant/silo.
  • Uses tools such as sledgehammer, wrenches, screwdrivers, pipe wrench.
  • Job requires the following motions: climbing, stooping stretching, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, walking, standing, reaching and squatting.
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. repetitively while using proper lifting techniques.
  • Must be able to adapt and work in extreme weather temperatures.



Work Environment

  • Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.
