Travel:

This position may involve travel within the state as well as occasional out-of-state travel to attend meetings and events, which may require overnight stays. A valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment are required.

Work Hours & Location:

This position may require working beyond a normal work week to accomplish goals and attend meetings or events outside of normal business hours. Schedules are flexible as are work sites, including occasional work-at-home options depending upon operational needs.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the supervision, management, and work required for the communication of information to League members, affiliate members, program members, state government staff and officials, media, the general public, and staff through The League website, social media sites, and other various methods of communication. This position also has full oversight of all League publications, including the Municipal Reporter magazine and newsletters, as well as business programs, events, and meeting-related materials. This position manages the Communications team as well as The League website, social media sites, media alerts, news releases, and press events.

Essential Job Duties:

An employee in this position is required to perform the following essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties:

  • Daily review and management of communications calendar/schedule.
  • Municipal Reporter: Collaborate with the executive team to determine topics for yearly editions; determine and obtain content for each edition, both in-house and with association presidents and League and Business Leaders Network members; oversee design and layout; final editing and approvals.
  • Media relations point of contact; prepare press releases, oversee media lists, manage press events, and media campaigns.
  • Oversee League website and social media accounts.
  • Supervise Communications Managers; run team meetings.
  • Oversee content and design/dissemination of League Link, Legislative Locator, BLN Update, PELRAS Update, and PELRAS Scoop.
  • Proofing, editorial review, and approval of all in-house newsletters, event-related materials, various League and business program publications, and brochures.
  • Oversee advertising for the magazine.
  • Manage all aspects of various publications and print materials such as brochures, directories, letterheads, business cards, pocket folders, building signs, reports, etc.
  • Point of contact with printed material provider and other outside contractors.
  • League photographer and videographer along with Communications Managers.
  • Management of videos and social media posting.
  • Oversee Associate Membership and MJJ+ programs.
  • Oversee logo and signature files.
  • A key member for special projects, campaigns, and initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with internal staff on the development and implementation of strategic goals, objectives, policies, branding, and procedures.
  • All other work necessary to fulfill the mission of The League and as directed by direct supervisor Deputy Executive Director – Operations and/or Executive Director.

Education, Experience & Subject Matter Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities could be qualifying.
  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience is required.
  • Understanding of local government activities is desired. Knowledge and experience working with municipal officials and public employees is preferred.
  • Association and/or membership organization experience is beneficial.
  • Previous experience managing others is strongly preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding and following oral and written instructions in the English language is required.
  • Sufficient knowledge and skill in the use of standard office software as well as design software is required.
  • The ability to master an organization-specific membership database and specialized applications related to departmental function is required.
  • The ability to work independently under changing priorities and short deadlines is required.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, or political affiliation, is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
