Job Description:

Federal Signal is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer for our operations department who will collaborate with our design and production team to determine manufacturability of new products.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Collaborates with Design Engineering, Production Supervisor, and Group leaders for manufacturability (“Design for Assembly”) of new products and participates in Design Reviews.

    • Programs and troubleshoots PCB equipment

    • Programs and troubleshoots automation, robotics and various technology in the facility



  • Determines, specifies, and implements the necessary tooling, facilities, fixturing processes, and production equipment required, including vendor selection, for manufacturing.

  • Conducts Value Analysis on existing products.

  • Develops, justifies, and implements process and assembly improvements for existing products in tools, fixtures, and production equipment.

  • Proposes and implements approaches to the design and development of new manufacturing processes, equipment, and Plant/Work Center layout.

  • Balances line production (manufacturing) based on sales/marketing requirements.

  • Evaluates and monitors production performance against router times.

  • Assists Design and Test Engineering and specifies the necessary equipment for testing.

  • Instructs and trains supervisors and group leaders on proper operation of production machinery and equipment.

  • Develops teams to investigate and resolve routine production problems.

  • Conducts Cost/Router/Material Usage Audits as required by Cost Accounting/Marketing.

Position Requirements


  • Bachelor Degree in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering.

  • CAD/CAM experience.  Microcomputer proficiency in major packages. 

  • A minimum of three to five years experience in a manufacturing work environment preferred.
