Job Description:


Position title: Safeguarding Advisor II

Location: Baltimore, MD, United States | (Remote)



Qualifications:

Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Int'l Development, Psychology, Social Work, Law) or experience in lieu?
  • Five or more years of relevant, international experience (safeguarding, protection) in an advisory or management role with progressive responsibilities. NGO experience preferred.
  • Prior management and supervisory experience
  • Strong analytical and writing skills; experience leading the development of reports
  • Conscientious and detail oriented
  • Experience implementing policies and practices (safeguarding policy and practices strongly preferred) related to staff and/or implementing partners
  • Professional experience working in or supporting one or more countries in Eastern and/or Southern Africa
  • Experience developing training materials and in coaching and facilitation, applying adult learning principles and practices
  • Provide oversight and direction to staff by using effective interpersonal and communication skills; influence others both within and outside of functional areas of responsibility
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with, USG and other major public donors
  • Solid organizational/time management skills: the ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced multi-tasking team environment
  • Unpretentious and smart; a problem solver who seeks to find constructive solutions within compliance and policy requirements
  • Strong coordination skills and ability to adhere to deadlines and work remotely

Required Languages – English fluency required; French fluency preferred. Additional languages a plus.

Travel – travel will vary; 30% anticipated travel in given year

  • Contributes to safeguarding risk assessment and mitigation strategies in relation to areas of their work
  • Promotes widespread awareness and where applicable, use of safeguarding reporting channels throughout their work
  • Knowledge of industry safeguarding/sexual exploitation and abuse principles and standards
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, representation, and networking skills

Supervisory Responsibilities: Potentially 1-2 positions

Work Conditions/Environment Conditions: Tele-commuting position from CRS office location with preference for Eastern or Southern Africa

Internal: Safeguarding Director; Senior Safeguarding Advisors; Regional Safeguarding Advisors; Partner Safeguarding Advisors; Regional Directors/Deputy Directors; Country Representatives; Country Program Senior Management Teams; inter-departmental collaboration with Global People Resources, Humanitarian Response, Partnership, Protection, MEAL (monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning), Risk and Compliance, Business Development

External: Caritas International (CI), InterAction, CHS Alliance, other CI Member Organizations, NGO and UN Safeguarding Staff, Donor Safeguarding focal points.
