Learning Communities at the University of Vermont are a partnership between Residential Life and Academic Affairs and Student Success, where students live with other students who share an interest, take courses associated with their learning community theme, and participate in co-curricular programming to further connect students to faculty and staff and opportunities to explore their majors/career paths.


The Program Director for the Sustainability Learning Community reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives and Student Success. Provide leadership and ensure the success of day-to-day operations of the learning community. The Program Director should have experience with and be engaged campus housing and residential life best practices and trends surrounding sustainability (e.g., joining national organizations, attending conferences, engaging with peer institutions, etc).


Oversee budgeting, assessment, and works in collaboration with designated program coordinators on the development and implementation of the curriculum throughout the academic year. Support the academic enterprise of the institution's mission, especially as it pertains to bridging the academic and co-curricular missions of the department and division. Work with Residential Learning and Academic Engagement Unit leadership to support co-curricular, service, cultural, and social programs. Lead marketing, recruitment, and assessment activities for the Sustainability Learning Community in coordination with Marketing and Strategic Communications.


Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):

Master's degree, three to five years of residence life, learning community, (or equivalent) and supervisory experiences are required. Ability to demonstrate commitment to diversity, social justice, and fostering a collaborative multicultural environment.


Desirable Qualifications:

Education, research, and/or experience with sustainability theory and practice.


Anticipated Pay Range:

$55,000 - $56,650 (11 months)


Other Information:

Regular evening and weekend hours required. Standard work week will be M-F, 10 am to 6 pm, with option to flex hours as needed to support on campus programming efforts. This is an 11-month position, July 1 - May 31.


Special Conditions:

Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, Bargaining unit position, Background Check required for this position
