Position Title:

Donor Experience Officer


Position Summary:

The Annual Giving Donor Experience Officer (DXO) is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance the experience of Spelman College's donors and prospects. This role focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships with donors, ensuring their contributions are acknowledged and valued, and fostering a culture of philanthropy within the organization. The DXO will work closely with the Annual Giving and Alumnae Engagement teams to further the overall mission of Spelman College and the Division of Institutional Advancement.This role will actively engage and manage a rolling portfolio with a minimum of 1,000 current, lapsed, and prospective donors, refreshed quarterly. This DXO will cultivate relationships with donors through digital communication, phone, social media, video conferencing, texting, and other virtual platforms. They will leverage these tools to build rapport, steward and solicit donors in a donor-centric, targeted, high-velocity manner. This position will coordinate efforts and serve as a liaison between the Office of Leadership and Planned Giving, and Alumnae Engagement.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities :





  • Collaborates with the Director of Annual Giving to develop and implement digital strategies that drive overall fundraising for the College's annual fund (Spelman Strong), including operating and budget plans, participation goals, and measurable outcomes.

  • Manages a rolling portfolio of at least 1,000 current, lapsed, and prospective donors, refreshed quarterly. Cultivate these relationships through various digital platforms (email, phone, social media, video conferencing, etc.), ensuring donor-centric, high-velocity engagement. Coordinate with the Office of Leadership and Planned Giving and Alumnae Engagement to align efforts.

  • Works with Alumnae Engagement, Leadership Gifts, and other departments to coordinate national outreach, special fundraising, and stewardship activities. Support solicitation strategies for Direct Mail, Reunion Campaign, Campus Campaign, and Parent Association.

  • Analyzes giving trends, monitors progress toward donor and dollar goals, and implements strategies to increase donor retention. Develops and manages feedback mechanisms to understand donor experiences and identify areas for improvement.

  • Provides copywriting for all communications, especially digital content, and create impactful materials (newsletters, emails, social media posts) to keep donors informed and engaged.

  • Supports donor appreciation events, maintain accurate donor records, and generate reports to inform strategies and measure success.

  • Recruits and manages volunteers for stewardship activities and assist in managing the Annual Giving donor experience budget. Identify and implement innovative practices to enhance donor engagement.


Required Qualifications:

· Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.


· Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in donor relations, stewardship, or a related field within a nonprofit, higher education environment, or similar setting, preferably with a focus on HBCUs or women's organizations.

· Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in donor database management and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and donor stewardship strategies.

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require occasional evening and weekend work to attend donor events.

  • Some travel may be required to meet with donors or attend events.


Technical Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to perform advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). In addition to producing correspondence, duties may involve assignments that require creating brochures, Canva presentations, newsletters, computer generated graphics, use of MS Outlook and internet. Experience with digital marketing and communications tools such as ThankView, Gratavid, Constant Contact, Scalefunder, and Mail Chimp is preferred. Must be proficient in the use of various social media platforms.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, talk, walk, hear, use hands to handle office supplies, operate computer and other office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
