Are you passionate about TikTok and Instagram Reels? Do you love creating content that gets people talking? Join the Communications & External Relations team at JJC and turn your social media skills into a paid position.


We're looking for a creative and trend-savvy social media assistant to help us showcase what it's really like to be a JJC student. You'll be the one behind the camera (or phone), turning our campus life, events and student stories into epic short videos and photos that catch everyone's attention and rack up the views.

You'll have the freedom to work around your class schedule, and you'll get to work (mostly) independently - no sitting in an office all day!


We want your ideas, your creativity and your eye for what's trending on TikTok and Instagram. Whether you're capturing a fun campus event or highlighting the coolest parts of student life, you'll play a key role in making JJC's social media pop.

POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Social Media Assistant

STATUS: Part time

DEPARTMENT: Communications and External Relations

DIVISION: Strategic Engagement, Communications and External Relations

REPORTS TO: Communications and Media Managers

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $14.00 per hour

(Position is FWS Eligible)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Create Awesome Content: Make TikToks, Reels and other social content that tell the real story of what it's like to be at JJC.

2. Stay on Trend: Keep up with what's hot on TikTok and Instagram and bring those trends to our grid.

3. Engage with Followers: Interact with our audience, jump on challenges and create content that makes people want to like, comment and share.

4. Tell Stories: Use your creativity to highlight the best of JJC - whether it's a campus event, a cool class project or just the daily life of a student.

5. Keep It High-Quality: Make sure your videos and photos look great, with attention to lighting, sound and editing.

6. Work Your Own Hours: Fit this job around your classes - capture content when it works for you (and us, but mostly you).

7. Be Independent: You'll get to work on your own most of the time, but we want to help with final drafts and captions.

8. Track What Works: Check out how your content is doing and help us improve with each post.

9. Perform related other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. GPA of 2.0 or above.

2. Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours.

3. High School diploma or equivalent.

4. Excellent Customer Service skills.

5. Experience managing social media for a club, organization or program.

6. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

7. Attentiveness to detail, excellent organizational skills, initiative, and multitasking.

8. Intermediate-level experience with Microsoft Office.

9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

2. Skills in editing content on apps and desktop software (like Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop).

3. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

4. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Office and equipment set up will require the ability to kneel on the floor and/or bend at the waist.

2. Should be comfortable potential wearing Wiley mascot costume for short periods.

This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 10 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Minimum of 5 hours required per week.
