The office supports the instructional objectives of the faculty and advances the educational and retention efforts of William & Mary in a coordinated effort to support student academic success and wellbeing.


Position Summary:

The Assistant Director for Academic Resilience is integral in managing the day-to-day operation of the various educational and departmental programs and initiatives in the areas of academic success, academic wellbeing, student persistence, strategic learning, and community development. The Assistant Director will provide individual advice and guidance for students on academic intervention programs, including students on academic warning, academic probation, and academic suspension. This position will serve as the liaison to graduate schools to develop ongoing collaborative relationships and the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs to ensure students are meeting academic standards. The Assistant Director will supervise a Graduate Assistant and over 15 student employees. This position will serve in the on-call rotation and on the university's emergency response team.

Employee will be required to participate in the On- Call rotation and the care reporting system.

Required Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and or experience.

  • Experience and understanding of student development theories.

  • Experience in advocating for college students.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse partners, characterized by cooperation, attention to detail, flexibility, and personal responsibility.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience supervising student employees.

  • Experience managing and developing academic intervention programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in assessment.

  • Knowledge of current trends and issues related to the field of Academic Wellbeing/ Student Affairs.

  • Experience with core technologies that support student success.

Up to $50,000 commensurate with experience.
