Modesto Irrigation District is recruiting to fill one full-time position in the Accounting Department, Finance and Treasury Division to perform technical and highly detailed work in support of district wide accounting and accounts payable functions. This classification is under general supervision from the Senior Accountant and required to perform work of a confidential nature, including research, analysis, and accurate preparation of reports in support of all payments at the District.
This classification requires well developed accounting technical skills, accuracy of work product, and knowledge of accounts payable, sales tax rules, and 1099 processes.

The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Senior Accounting Technician vacancies within the District that may occur through October 1, 2025.
Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following
Compile, tabulate, operate and enter statistical data into data entry equipment
Verify and balance financial and management data to batch totals
Process charge/credit tags, purchase orders, receive and opens daily mail
Prepare payment packages including warrants/checks, cost studies and weekly credit card summaries
Research and solve problems to related areas
Prepare a variety of financial and management reports
Communicate with other departments and vendors on various matters
Prepare and distribute various monthly accounts payable related reports
Act as official custodian of MIDaccounts payable records, performs less complex financial account analysis via computer spreadsheets and prepares reconciliations
Assist auditors for purpose of providing supporting documentation and/or information on internal processes required for the annual District financial audit.
Post cash receipts, balances ledger and processes miscellaneous accounts receivables
Prepare a variety of tax related reports, assigns and closes work orders, reviews requisitions and budget balances
Perform data entry for multiple petty cash functions, maintains fixed assets and vehicle records and reconciles various checking accounts
Train and assist lower level staff
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other District employees, outside agencies and the public using principles of good customer service
Perform related duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Any combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Graduation from an accredited two-year community college with major course work in Accounting, Business Administration or closely related field OR four (4) years additional experience above the minimum requirement performing an acceptable level of accounting may substitute for the education requirement.
Experience: Four (4) years experience in related work with a minimum of two (2) years general accounting or financial experience.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Accounts payable processes, W-9 forms
Theory and practice of double entry bookkeeping
Generally accepted accounting principles
English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.
Principles and practices of safety management
Principles and practices of effective customer service
Modern office procedures, methods, equipment, including spreadsheets
Ability to:
Research and solve problems in an efficient timely manner
Understand general and complex accounts payable procedures and basic accounting and mathematical calculations
Perform complex account reconciliations and basic data processing procedures
Prepare financial analysis spreadsheets
Maintain and document accounts payable procedures
Operate and use modern office equipment including computers and applicable software
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Special Requirement: Must have a valid California Class C license.
