Job Description Summary:
The Design Executive is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and execution of all design services activities and manages personnel. They provide counsel on complex design matters and implement department process, procedures, and company best practices.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Able to perform all essential Senior Design Manager responsibilities.

  • Ensure team executes department strategy, vision, and business goals.

  • Infuses vision and purpose to the team and communicates how efforts fit into the big picture.


Leadership & Alignment

  • Oversee design services activities, budgets, and resources in assigned division(s).

  • Monitors design services budgets and conducts regular analysis (active projects, staff budgets, spending, etc.) to identify risk and opportunities.

  • Effectively interacts with internal and external stakeholders to maintain trusted partnerships and achieve divisional and regional objectives.

  • Promote design thinking across projects and educate teams on design principles and best practices.


Strategic Talent Planning

  • Actively coaches, mentors, and oversees development and hiring or for their assigned team.

  • Empowers team members to meet their job duties and responsibilities and conducts employee performance evaluations for direct reports.

Best-in-Class Execution


  • Manages the design process from the initial to final design concept on large/complex project(s).

  • Develops and implements design services process, practices, and tools.

  • Leverage knowledge to reviews contracts for risks and develop design solutions early on.

  • Oversees partnerships with A/E teams from contract execution to delivery of services.

  • Serves as subject matter expect on complex design matters, constructability, document review, and design services standards.

  • Conducts design and technical reviews to reduce issues with cost, procurement, or constructability.

  • Develop and implement effective value management practices and procedures.

  • Ensure design personnel provide effective support to project teams, trade partners, and clients from preconstruction to project delivery.

  • Lead design meetings, communicate department updates, and ensure team is aligned on team priorities.


Market Development & Diversification

  • Partner with Operations to identify lead opportunities, advise on design components, and develop strategies to secure work.

  • Participate in pursuits/business development activities including proposals, interviews, attending industry events, etc.

  • Complete other responsibilities and activities as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field; or equivalent working experience

  • 10+ years of construction management experience, including extensive working experience with the design build delivery process.

  • Demonstrated ability in design-build project management and delivery, including staff coordination, budgeting, scheduling, and quality control/quality assurance.

  • Experience with developing and implement design procedures and standards across teams/departments.

  • Understands legal perspective of design.

  • Thorough understanding of construction project management control systems (scheduling, cost control, procurement and estimating)

  • Experience with managing and leading high performance teams..

  • Working knowledge and experience with green design and sustainable methods in construction.

  • Excellent understanding of the technical aspects of all building systems.

  • Excellent organizational and (written and verbal) communication skills.

  • Effectively balances data, intuition, experience, and diverse perspectives in decision-making and problem solving.

  • Able to foster collaboration and navigate conflict effectively amongst internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong computer skills and experience with construction management software and platforms.

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit, or other similar design software applications

  • Experience in Virtual Design, Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software on construction projects.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • LEED accredited professional.

  • DBIA Certified Credential
