Description: Job Summary

This position plays a key role in implementing content and multimedia initiatives for the Department of Athletics. The position works closely with both the communications and marketing groups to promote the mission and goals of the Department by creating creative cinematic visual content for Harvard Athletics events, for digital national, regional and local distribution. The position reports to the Director of Multimedia and Production at Athletics.

Position Description

1. Independently devise, storyboard and plan multimedia feature content, telling the story of what makes the University, athletics department, coaches and student-athletes different and special.

  • Solicit story ideas from the communications and marketing teams, as well as coaches and student-athletes, to flesh out relevant and noteworthy stories to achieve strategic recruiting, fundraising, marketing and storytelling goals.
  • Work with the Director of Multimedia and Production to develop a plan of distribution of new multimedia content on both internal and external communications channels.


2. Spearhead department-wide content creation initiatives, on topics relating to Harvard mission and core values.

  • Lead shooting, editing and releasing of feature multimedia content, with major impact of Harvard University external communications and marketing.
  • Research industry trends relating to creative content creation and distribution, to make sure Harvard Athletics remains in the forefront of the field.


3. Shoot and edit creative video content from Harvard athletics events

  • Plan creative video content for Harvard athletics events
  • Work during home, and select away, Harvard Athletics events, capturing video footage on the sideline.
  • Shoot and edit cinematic creative video content during Harvard athletics events


4. Supervision

  • Supervise LHTs, temps, interns and student staff in devising feature content relating to student-athletes, coaches and programs, to showcase during live broadcasts.
  • Supervise LHTs, temps, interns and student staff in shooting, editing and releasing creative multimedia content relating to Harvard Athletics, student-athletes coaches and staff.
  • Conduct department-wide trainings relating to content creation, editing and capture.


5. Recruitment, Onboarding, & Training

  • Recruit LHTs and Temps for part-time creative roles.
  • Assist with the on-boarding and training efforts for new multimedia student staff to capture content during home athletics events.


6. Maintain and service multimedia equipment

  • Initiate regular inspections of existing multimedia video capture and editing equipment around the Harvard Athletics campus.
  • Recommend the purchase of new creative video equipment and keep up-to-date with industry trends.


7. Live-Event Broadcasts

  • During especially busy game weekends, assist in the production of live broadcasts and video board shows during Harvard Athletics events.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in video editing, videography or creative content creation.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous experience in sports videography or sports creative content creation desired.
  • Must have outstanding organizational, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently.


Working Conditions

  • Ability and willingness to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, rain, cold).
  • Evening and weekend work, as well as occasional travel required.
