Job Summary

Reporting to the Credit Manager, the Credit Analyst’s primary job responsibility is to assess the creditworthiness of an assigned portfolio of large commercial and industrial entities per existing risk policy and desk procedures and to take proactive measures to support effective credit risk standards. The Credit Risk Analyst handles the full cycle of credit for large commercial and industrial end users of energy commodities and energy services. Credit Analyst assesses and evaluates business unit credit exposure through quantitative and qualitative risk analytics; where applicable uses modelling techniques to assess the probability of credit default occurring and evaluates/values the impact/consequences of such occurrence. In addition, the Credit Analyst supports and cultivates an enterprise-based risk awareness culture, through coordination amongst business units and support functions and external industry/risk organizations.

Essential Functions

  • Assess creditworthiness of prospective and existing commercial legal entities in a prompt and diligent manner.
  • Follow established risk policy and procedures to prepare the initial credit investigation using financial statement analysis, industry research, payment trends and all available resources to achieve desired risk appetite.
  • Develop trend reports and use analytical skills to set up, monitor and enforce credit limits and payment terms.
  • Leverage automation to assist collect outstanding accounts receivable balances.
  • Aid in the investigation, reconciliation and resolution of disputed accounts receivable balances and delinquencies
  • Identify high credit risk customers and recommend proactive mitigation promptly.
  • Assist in the bankruptcy process of assigned accounts as applicable.
  • Negotiate and maintain credit enhancements.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls.
  • Exhibit SES’s core values, competencies and develop positive interactions and collaboration with internal and external personnel.
    1. Bring innovative ideas/recommendations to improve current processes/procedures/activities.
    2. Knowledge share of prior credit experience/activities/best practices with fellow team members
    3. Recommend updates and enhancements to current desk procedures to Credit Leadership
    4. Assist on the development of enterprise credit reports/materials.
    5. Develop contract review expertise as it pertains to credit related clauses.
    6. Develop bankruptcy expertise as it pertains to credit related issues.
    7. Ad-hoc activities as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification/Experience

  • Requires a minimum of bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or general business.
  • A minimum of five years of full-time professional working experience; experience in energy or banking preferred; of which at least 3 years of commercial credit risk experience and/or accounting/financial/risk-based experience.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

  • Proficiency with credit software applications and energy trade/reporting systems (ETRMs).
  • Credit Risk related professional designations are also a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing, utilizing clear and concise language.
  • Able to perceive and understand verbal communication in person, as well as over communication devices such as telephone or mobile phone.
  • Able to visually perceive information on a personal computer monitor or laptop screen for extended periods of time.
  • Capable of operating a personal computer, whether it is a desktop or laptop, for extended periods of time to create, compose, and review documents and spreadsheets.
  • Competent in operating office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, mobile phones, photocopiers, scanners, and calculators.
  • Able to reach, grasp, and manipulate items necessary to perform job tasks.
  • Able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time as required by job responsibilities.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and comprehending the English language.
  • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Working Conditions

  • Able to work in a fast-paced office environment with a high-volume workload, including the possibility of working beyond standard hours and on nights/weekends to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work indoors, in an office environment, regardless of whether it is an open office, cubicle or private office.
  • Able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight, and to attend meetings and conferences, when required.
