Job Description:

ICA Languages Services is actively seeking an experienced Language Training Supervisor (LTS) focusing mainly on our Russian program, as well as other Slavic languages. Classes are individual and in small groups; they are in-person and online. DLI experience is required. This is a salaried, full-time, in-person role, at our facility in Arlington, VA. The Language Training Supervisor (LTS) reports to our Academic Advisor and is responsible for the successful design and execution of programs that meet client needs and expectations; supervising course delivery through observation, instructor supervision, reviewing progress with students, to achieve student success.

Duties:

Language Program Responsibilities:

In a team-based environment, the LTS must be able to work with others, actively participate, share responsibility and rewards, and contribute to team capability, as we strive toward advancing the careers of our students. The LTS is responsible for establishing, reviewing, and maintaining all language programs under their supervision. This requires review of the program identifying areas for improvement or additional development to support a wide range of students and agencies. The LTS will be responsible for leading all program changes and will document program reviews, findings, actions, assignments, and completion of actions.

Language Course Delivery Responsibilities:

The LTS develops, a tailored approach for the student that ensures the student will meet their goal 


  • Reviews the requested language program and modifies the curriculum to fit the parameters of the requested course/student goals and needs

  • Writes the tailored course syllabus that specifically relates to the student’s needs, final learning objectives, and country of assignment

  • Coordinates with HR for posting of positions and selecting the most qualified instructor(s) that meet the requirements of the newly modified curriculum

  • Managing class performance by observation, assessments, and reviewing progress reports to identify academic or learning behavior issues that prevent achievement of student goals

  • Formally counselling each student monthly to discuss progress to goal and any course concerns. After each counseling session, the LTS will brief the instructor(s) on the session and determine how best to change the course approach based on the outcomes of the meeting. The LTS must document the counseling session and instructor briefing with actionable tasks, assignee, and due dates 

Instructor Supervision:

The LTS will also perform supervisory duties for instructors delivering courses


  • Individual training on lesson planning, weekly schedules, syllabi development & modification, activity development, and testing formats

  • Identifying instructor professional development needs, assigning seminars/workshops for completion, if seminars do not exist, make recommendations to AA for creation 

  • Providing constructive feedback to instructors with concrete examples of concerns and how they can improve 

  • Ensuring lesson plans and weekly schedules are completed and are appropriate for the student’s level and goals 

  • Reviewing and approving instructor timesheets for accuracy for payroll and client billing

Required Qualifications:


  • BA in Education, Linguistics, or a related field or a BA in an unrelated field with 7 years of experience in second language acquisition in an intensive environment

  • Bi-Lingual in Russian and English

  • 3-5 or more years of experience in foreign language or ESL teaching, curriculum development and/or testing. One of these years must be in the supervision of language instruction

  • Native proficiency in a foreign language or English. If non-native English speaker, a certified ILR 3 for speaking/listening/reading/writing in English

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong management and counseling abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of ILR Levels and the application to final learning objectives

  • Knowledge and application of various adult instruction methodologies both in person and distance

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and experience with various educational software for asynchronous and synchronous learning

  • Ability to work effectively with and through others including those over whom there is no formal authority

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to solve problems

  • Strong professional etiquette when communicating with clients 

  • Ability to keep a collegial and professional attitude towards supervisors, colleagues and other staff and teaching employees

  • Ability to receive constructive criticism and seek to improve

Preferred Qualifications:


  • A Master’s Degree in foreign language teaching, second language acquisition, linguistics, or a related field preferred
