Overview

Employee-owned, RS&H is one of the nation’s leading architecture, engineering, and consulting firms whose associates work hard every day to create a more connected future where everyone can thrive. We offer an exceptional journey from start to future. Our integrated teams translate experience into insight, turn challenges into opportunities, and build relationships that are as strong as the buildings and infrastructure we deliver together. We attribute our success to an unwavering commitment to our core values of: integrity, caring, forward-thinking, creativity, inclusivity, and ownership.

Responsibilities

We take pride in having partnered with the Department of Defense for more than 70 years on facilities and infrastructure projects designed to protect, train, and service military personnel and their families. From hangars and airfields to training and command facilities, you could be a part of a team that is changing the landscape of national security. Whatever military projects arise, we’re ready to support our uniformed men and women that protect and serve our nation.

Qualifications

RS&H is currently seeking a Planning Associate to join our team. You’ll work from your local office and travel with our team to collect data, convert it into information, and make recommendations. No two days are the same as you investigate new problems, large amounts of data, and questions that come up along the way. Projects will be diverse, and may include vision plans, district plans, area development plans, master plans, neighborhood plans, strategic facilities plans, facility utilization studies, capital investment strategies, project development and validation, and other products for federal agencies and other clients.

Requirements

Here's what you need to be successful:

  • A bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, or a related field. Your industry interest is critical to being successful in this role, but you don’t necessarily need prior experience in this role.
  • A love for problem-solving. We create solutions for problems other people can’t solve. Your job? To stay curious while synthesizing data points into trends to help your team make client recommendations.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy. You’ll create maps, exhibits, presentation materials, and reports for the team. You’re the type of person who triple-checks your work before submitting it.
  • A proactive and deadline-oriented attitude. While your leadership team will give you tasks for the week, you’ll be responsible for managing your time daily. Everyone relies on each other to deliver work on time.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and basic knowledge of planning software. You don’t need to be an expert in any tool or planning software, but you must be confident working with them. As your expertise grows, you should feel comfortable learning new concepts to be more efficient with these systems.
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 12 times per year).
  • Adobe InDesign and Illustrator skills.
  • Familiarity with use of Geographic Information Systems.
  • Experience creating plan graphics and visualizations.
  • Experience performing master planning tasks and working on multiple project teams.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense land use, planning, and programming standards and processes.
  • US Citizenship per client requirement.

If you have any of the following, we’ll be even more excited:

  • AICP Certification
  • LEED Accreditation
  • Prior military service

If this sounds like the role for you and you're ready to join an amazing team, please apply.
