The Prospect Research and Strategy team supports the philanthropic goals of the hospital by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and disseminating actionable information that assists in the development of engagement and solicitation strategies for prospective donors to the Brigham.


The Assistant Director of Research is responsible for researching and analyzing information on prospective donors to the Brigham. They provide research support to Brigham Development Office (BDO) leadership and gift officers to advise development strategies and advance potential donor relationships. They will build strong relationships with fundraising partners to develop an understanding of fundraising priorities on an individual and institutional level. The Assistant Director responds to research requests in a timely manner, analyzing and synthesizing information, and generating screenings, profiles, event biographies and prospect lists.


The Assistant Director will also work in collaboration with the Research Prospect Strategy team to ensure that the best prospects are assigned to the right BDO gift officer at the right time. They will play a role in the overall success of the prospect pipeline development for the BDO Major Gifts team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Using a variety of online resources, the Assistant Director will synthesize information on prospects to produce clear screenings/profiles/biographies of their background, career, financial capacity, philanthropic interests, and nature of their relationship to the Brigham.

  • They will combine an analysis of known wealth indicators with qualitative insights gleaned from research information to assess the philanthropic capacity of Brigham prospects and donors (priority focus on $500k+ - major donors)

  • The Assistant Director will act as the primary Research Partner in the BDO for one Major Gifts team, the Annual Giving team, the Cultivation and Stewardship Events team, and the Events Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships team.

  • They will assist with Proactive Research screenings and Priority Research Updates (MG Pipeline Prospects).

  • The Assistant Director will also work on data enrichment and data integrity projects in the CRM database to improve prospecting and data modeling efforts.

  • They will serve as a backup for training and onboarding new staff via BDO Passport Sessions.

  • Seek opportunities for professional development to enhance job performance.

  • Stay on top of industry, business, and regional trends.

  • Other duties as assigned include Lunch and Learn sessions.






Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of four-six years prospect research experience in Development preferred.

  • Proficiency with a broad range of research techniques, including Internet resources, searching of electronic databases, and the use of other appropriate sources and methods.

  • Proficient knowledge of computer software programs (Microsoft Office), fundraising databases and screening tools (Blackbaud CRM experience strongly preferred)
