The Construction Materials Laboratory Technician will be responsible for independently performing basic aggregate tests and assisting with other construction materials testing, as required. The technician will be expected to perform routine maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on laboratory equipment. The test data collected is expected to be accurately entered by the technician into the lab's Materials Testing System (MTS). The technician will be expected to perform their job functions with minimal supervision after training. They will be required to pursue and secure further developmental education in the form of professional certifications in aggregate, concrete, and/or asphalt testing as required for the laboratory's accreditation. The position is salaried with overtime possible.
Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment
Professionally interact with other lab personnel as well as internal and external customers
Unload delivery vehicles using hand-truck and/or forklift
Routinely perform laboratory tests on aggregates
Assist with laboratory testing on concrete, asphalt, and other materials when required
Report test results to the supervisor via the MTS
Assist in the maintenance of all laboratory equipment
Notify supervisor whenever supplies and/or equipment are needed
Some limited travel may be required
Available to work on weekends and/or holidays, when required
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor and/or lead lab techs
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent required, additional education a plus
Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English
Excellent attention to detail
Must have working knowledge of calculators and computers, basic computer skills in Excel and Word and capable of learning StonemontQC
Ability to read, interpret, and execute standardized test procedures (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.)
Must be able to attend class and fulfill requirements for state and national certification programs
Forklift certification required, or able to obtain within 1 year
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of performing duties while wearing appropriate PPE; eye, ear, dust protection, gloves and fall protection
Must be capable of lifting sixty-five (65) pounds on a routine basis
Work tasks requires extensive standing throughout a normal day
Must be able to bend, stoop down, and/or kneel while performing some tests
Good manual dexterity and physical coordination is needed
