Job Description:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY


  • Stage, operate, unload and pack the bleach line producing bleached fiber bales, while maintaining a safe work environment and meeting all production and quality standards.

  • Lead a team of 1 -- 2 operators for the department and conduct on the job training as required.

  • Update daily production data in the production spreadsheet.

  • Coordinate the running of the production schedule.

  • Setting machinery up to meet required finished product specifications.

  • Assisting Shift QA Tech with required production testing and documentation.



SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.

  • Each Operator must know all aspects of each function listed below and will be required to periodically rotate from one operator position to another while assuming responsibility of each Operator function. Training will be provided.


Bleach Line:

  • Starting/Stopping and operating the Bleach Line and all supporting equipment (BDT, SP-MF, MXU, CL-P, CL-U, TS-T4, Dryer, Baler, etc.)

  • Open cotton bales and position them into the Blendomat area according to a predetermined blend and laydown mapping.

  • Perform close monitoring and corrective actions for auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to, filter house, boiler, pump house, chemical area, etc.

  • Perform required testing of fiber and finish/chemical levels.

  • Safely monitor and replenish chemicals needed for the correct operation of the bleach line.

  • Transport all recycle waste to the correct area.

  • Perform routine quality audits. Maintain all quality standards.

  • Input correct bale information into the inventory system and label bales.

  • Report any fiber quality issues to Shift Supervisor, QA Tech & Supervisor, and Plant Management.

  • Enter shift production details in designated spreadsheet.

  • Keeping the department and equipment clean by blowing out, washing, wiping down and sweeping as required.

  • Remove all trash, bags, bale wires, straps from area and recycle where possible.

  • Return all working materials (brooms, tools, hoses, etc.) to proper area when not in use.

  • Recycle all clean cotton back into the production line where applicable.

  • Assist Lead Operator as needed.

  • Maintain all housekeeping standards in work area.


Material Handler:

  • Assist other Operator(s) with running Bleach Line.

  • Transport all raw materials required for production from warehouse to the machines including but not limited to bale bags, baling wire, labels, etc.

  • Replenish all packing materials as needed from warehouse to baling area.

  • Open and stage cotton bales.

  • Input material locations into inventory system.

  • Assist in moving raw and finished bales to the correct storage area.

  • Assist Lead Operator as needed.

  • Maintain all housekeeping standards in work area.


Safety:

  • It is necessary for employees in this position to work in a very safe way to avoid work-related injuries.

  • All machine safety guards should be in place and equipment doors should be kept closed and in operating position at all times the machines are running.

  • If employees notice any safety concerns, this should immediately be brought to the attention of their supervisor.

  • Must use all required PPE for each task associated with job (some PPE that will be required for various tasks: ear plugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, face shields, chemical gloves, cut resistant gloves/sleeves, chemical resistant apron etc.)

  • This position will require the ability to understand the usage of various chemicals within the process, the safety hazards associated with each, and the appropriate handling procedures and required PPE.

  • Any other duties or tasks as assigned by management.



EXPERIENCE
Prior work experience in manufacturing.
Knowledge and experience with MS Office and inventory control software (CAMS).

EDUCATION
High school graduate or GED equivalent

SKILLS
Basic English reading and writing skills
Basic math skills i.e. adding, subtracting, multiplication, and fractions
Good mechanical, process flow and reasoning ability
General mechanical skills.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of machine operating procedures.
Understanding of equipment set ups and achieving desired product quality.
Ability to work without close supervision

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE
Forklift Certified

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted
Walking and standing for up to 12 hours at a time
Visually inspecting and monitoring the department
Equipment cleaning/maintenance as required by each process
Operating a forklift
Climbing ladders
Some areas climate controlled, while others will be subject to effects from the operation and climate
Ear protection required when equipment is in operation
Eye protection required at all times
Exposure to dust particles
